Steam is currently offering players a chance to expand their game libraries at no cost, but only for a limited time. Until Thursday, 17 July, users can claim four games for free, including three from Slitherine Ltd., a publisher best known for its in-depth strategy titles.
What’s on Offer?
The four free games are:
- Battlestar Galactica: Deadlock
- Field of Glory 2: Medieval
- Fantasy General 2
- Caribbean Crashers
Each of the first three games comes from Slitherine Ltd., a publisher celebrating its 25th anniversary with a dedicated Steam sale.
All three strategy titles have received “Very Positive” reviews from players, making them strong additions for fans of tactical or turn-based gameplay.
Battlestar Galactica: Deadlock, developed by Black Lab Games, puts players in command of the Colonial Fleet during the First Cylon War. The game blends turn-based tactics with 3D space battles and is praised for its faithful use of the Battlestar Galactica licence.
Black Lab Games is also behind Warhammer 40,000: Battlesector, which is currently discounted by 70% on Steam.
Field of Glory 2: Medieval and Fantasy General 2 both follow traditional turn-based formats. The former offers historical battles in a medieval setting, while the latter takes a fantasy approach with a range of units and strategic depth.
Meanwhile, Caribbean Crashers, the fourth free title, is a much smaller indie project. Developed by Bloxhill, this game typically retails for a modest £1.69. It’s one of only two games released by the studio and, while not part of the Slitherine catalogue, happens to be free during the same window.
How to Claim
Unlike console giveaways, Steam requires no subscription or ongoing membership. To claim any of these titles, users simply need to log in to their Steam account, visit each game’s store page, and click “Add to Account.”
Once added, the games remain in your library permanently – even after the offer has expired.
Although Steam doesn’t follow a set schedule for free giveaways, it’s common to see new titles offered for free every month.
These offers often cover a wide range of genres, so even if the current line-up isn’t your preference, there’s always the chance a future free game will be a better match.
That said, these promotions are rarely announced in advance, so it’s wise to check the Steam store regularly.
Additionally, Amazon Prime members can also claim seven free games this month, with four more available as part of Prime Day. Between Steam and Amazon, there’s plenty to keep gamers busy, without spending a penny.
Make sure to grab Battlestar Galactica: Deadlock, Field of Glory 2: Medieval, Fantasy General 2, and Caribbean Crashers before 17 July, or risk missing out. No payment, no catch, just four new games, yours to keep.
