The surreal indie RPG Mouthole is now free to download and keep on Steam, but not for long.
Developer Anything Nose has confirmed the game will soon be permanently removed from the storefront as the studio ceases operations entirely.
While no specific date for the removal has been given, the change is already live, allowing players to claim the game for free before it disappears.

Mouthole launched just over a year ago on April 1st, 2024, and quickly built a small but vocal fanbase.

Despite its brief existence, Mouthole managed to carve out a unique identity in the crowded indie space, earning praise for its bizarre tone, minimalist gameplay, and emotionally charged themes. Set in a strange, dreamlike environment, the title invites players to manage their daily life in a home filled with subtle mysteries.
With activities ranging from checking the stock market to maintaining hygiene and investigating the unknown depths of your own mouth, the gameplay blends routine simulation with psychological exploration.
As detailed by ComicBook, several players report finishing the experience in one to two hours, although others have spent up to ten, suggesting multiple paths and outcomes.
Alongside the removal of Mouthole, the studio’s next project, Diacritic, has been cancelled.
The Steam page for Diacritic, including its free demo, will also be delisted.
The developers, Jo and Devin, shared a heartfelt message through a Steam blog post on May 13th, 2025, confirming the shutdown and expressing gratitude to their community. Although Steam access will soon end, Anything Nose plans to keep Mouthole available on Itch.io for free, while the soundtrack will remain downloadable from Bandcamp.
Both platforms will host the content “in perpetuity,” preserving the project for future discovery.
There’s no word yet on whether Mouthole is compatible with Steam Deck, as Valve’s storefront still lists it as “Unknown.” Even so, those intrigued by experimental design and short-form narrative games may want to secure their copy before it vanishes.
For now, Mouthole stands as a parting gift from a studio that, while short-lived, clearly left an impression.
