In an eagerly awaited move, Ubisoft has gifted its fans a more detailed look at the much-awaited Assassin’s Creed Mirage, through a gameplay trailer premiered at Sony’s PlayStation Showcase event. The gaming company had been unusually reticent since the initial announcement last year, shrouding the details of the upcoming Assassin’s Creed title in mystery. Now, the shroud lifts somewhat, as the latest trailer offers fans a taste of the flavour and gameplay to expect from Assassin’s Creed Mirage.
Recapturing the Spirit of the Assassin’s Creed Franchise
The resounding theme in the buzz surrounding this forthcoming title is a sense of a homecoming, a return to the roots of the Assassin’s Creed series, echoing the spirit of the franchise’s nascent days. Coupled with the swirling maelstrom of Assassin’s Creed Mirage rumours and leaked information, the anticipation has been steadily mounting within the fan community. Now, with the release of the latest trailer, there’s a strong suggestion that Ubisoft may be endeavouring to recreate the pre-RPG era experience of the series that so captured fans’ imaginations. There’s no doubt this entry will be heavily relying on stealth features which is what the series is ultimately known for.
Brand New AC Mirage Gameplay Trailer (Watch Now)
The gameplay trailer invites players into a vividly realised medieval Baghdad, following the protagonist Basim’s stealth-driven, parkour-filled, and assassination-centric journey. The scenes portrayed carry a contemporary spin on the nostalgic Assassin’s Creed style, the tonality and gameplay echoing the era of Altair and Ezio. Ubisoft added a hint of spice to the mix with a peek at new abilities, like Assassin Focus – enabling Basim to mark and assassinate a succession of targets – and a fresh parkour element named Pole Vault. Additionally, Ubisoft confirmed an October 12th release date, which aligns with previous rumours about the Assassin’s Creed Mirage release.
This tantalising teaser arrives during a period of refocused effort on the Assassin’s Creed franchise from Ubisoft, following a less than stellar 2022 which saw significant dips in the company’s revenue and net bookings. Intriguingly, Ubisoft plans to extend its Assassin’s Creed development timeline by around 40% over the coming 12 months. While it’s clear that Ubisoft has placed a hefty wager on Assassin’s Creed, only time will tell how this expansion strategy will play out for the series’ future.
Assassin’s Creed Mirage isn’t the lone star in Ubisoft’s firmament, however. The company currently has several titles in various stages of development, including one set in feudal Japan, and another unfolding in Central Europe amid the 16th century witch trials. Additionally, a hub-based project titled Assassin’s Creed Infinity is reportedly in the works, though Ubisoft is keeping its cards close to its chest on this front. If the latest gameplay trailer for Assassin’s Creed Mirage serves as an accurate barometer, then fans may have quite the thrilling journey ahead in the realm of Assassin’s Creed.
Assassin’s Creed Mirage is slated for release on October 12th, 2023, available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and Windows PC.
