Baldur’s Gate 3 Tweaking Overly Eager Romances After Approval Bug.

Baldur's Gate 3 Bug at Launch

Larian Studios is reeling in the excessive romantic enthusiasm plaguing Baldur’s Gate 3 companions. After a bug left the RPG’s expansive supporting cast far too amorously fixated on players, fixes now aim to restore relationship realism.

BG3’s early access launch delivered the expected Dungeons & Dragons intricacy, but also surprised with incredibly eager romantic pursuits from nearly all recruitable allies. These passionate computer-controlled sweethearts consummated affections sometimes mere minutes after joining the party.

Not the Gradual Relationships Devs Intended

Many felt whiplash between the meticulous CRPG systems and the dating sim-like romantic pacing. Larian CEO Swen Vincke acknowledged the disconnect arose from a bug botching hidden approval thresholds meant to determine suitable flirting time-frames.

Essentially, the dalliance deterrent broke, causing companions to rush heart-eyed into the protagonist’s arms ludicrously prematurely. Larian tweaked some values already, and continues rebalancing others to better emulate organic relationship evolution.

Speaking with TheGamer, Vincke implied the studio wants romances to require gradual relationship nurturing, not spontaneously generate like rabbits. Getting to know someone beyond their armour takes time and nuance – even in fantasy worlds.

Changes to the top rated 2023 title already curbed one fling-happy offender – the chronically crush-prone wizard Gale got his threshold raised considerably. Expect more measured emotional development from other lovestruck heroes soon.

Speedruns Highlight Bug’s Unintended Legacy

Of course, while unintentional, the canoodling chaos left quite the impression on the game’s fans. YouTube already brims with ludicrous speedrun videos targeting the joke “Sex%” category – romancing companions in mere minutes by ruthlessly gaming broken systems.

One Canadian player hilariously managed to initiate and complete a Baldur’s Gate 3 tryst in just over two minutes. So Larian may have trouble burying evidence of this unintended legacy. At least Vincke embraces the humour rather than frustration.

Looking ahead, upcoming Xbox ports will likely feature the fully amended and less libidinous relationship systems. Until then, PC players experience Baldur’s Gate 3’s ongoing improvements firsthand.

While fans poke fun at launch quirks, Larian’s responsiveness regarding overly available companions remains commendable. Even in early access, the RPG title evolves rapidly thanks to transparency and communication. A bittersweet bug becomes an opportunity to refine roleplaying depth.

Baldur’s Gate 3 has been released for PC, and it’s set to debut on PS5 on September 6, with an Xbox Series X/S version anticipated for a late 2023 launch.
