Key Highlights:

  • Alone in the Dark was delayed for a second time, moving from January 16 to March 20, 2024.
  • THQ Nordic and Pieces Interactive said the decision was made to avoid potential crunch over the Christmas holidays.
  • March 20 ultimately became the final release date for the PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions.

In December 2023, Alone in the Dark was delayed again, with THQ Nordic and Pieces Interactive moving the survival horror re-imagining from January 16 to March 20, 2024.

Unlike the first delay, which moved the game away from a crowded October release window, the second postponement was directly tied to the development team’s working conditions over Christmas.

THQ Nordic said a January launch would have left Pieces Interactive facing a stressful holiday period and that both companies wanted to avoid potential crunch while prioritising the wellbeing of the team.

The extra two months also gave the studio more time to polish the game ahead of launch, with THQ Nordic stating that it wanted Alone in the Dark to meet the expectations surrounding the return of the long-running survival horror series.

This was the game’s second release-date change in less than four months. Alone in the Dark had originally been scheduled for October 25, 2023 before being delayed to January 16, 2024 to move it away from an unusually busy October launch window.

March 20 finally held.

Alone in the Dark launched on that date for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, ending a release cycle that had seen the game move back by almost five months from its original October target.
