Key Highlights:

  • God of War Ragnarök is now available for a free 3-hour trial on the PlayStation Plus Premium subscription service.
  • This allows players to download and try out the full game for a limited time before deciding to purchase it.
  • Ragnarök recently topped a poll as PlayStation’s best exclusive title, beating popular games like Spider-Man 2 and Horizon Zero Dawn.
  • The game launched in November 2022 exclusively for PlayStation consoles to critical acclaim for its compelling story, characters, and combat.
  • There are also reports that God of War Ragnarök may get a PC release in early 2025.

When God of War Ragnarök launched in November 2022 for PlayStation 4 and 5, the hype and expectation were stratospheric.

The reception did not disappoint, with Ragnarök earning universal praise as a masterful continuation of Kratos and son Atreus’ deeply personal journey. From its stellar performances and cinematic storytelling to its vicious yet refined combat, Ragnarök clearly resonated as a new high point for the franchise.

Now, over a year since its PlayStation debut, God of War Ragnarök is finally becoming more accessible to a wider gaming audience through two exciting developments.

Following a recent poll by the official PlayStation Twitter/X account to determine the community’s favourite exclusive title, God of War Ragnarök emerged victorious.

The Free 3-Hour Trial

For those PlayStation owners who missed out on Ragnarök’s launch or were hesitant about its still premium $69.99 price point, Sony is offering the game as part of its PlayStation Plus Premium service’s “Game Trials” program.

This allows any Premium subscriber to download and play the entirety of God of War Ragnarök for up to 3 hours before it locks them out.

While not a full, unlimited demo, it provides a generous window to experience a solid chunk of the opening story and gameplay.

For an epic, cinematic adventure renowned for its slow-burn narrative build, this trial could be the perfect “try before you buy” opportunity to get invested in Ragnarök’s world before taking the plunge on that hefty purchase.

PC Port Reportedly in the Works

Even more exciting news for fans of the series is the strong rumour and reported leaks suggesting God of War Ragnarök may finally be coming to PC sometime in early 2025 – over 2 years after its initial release.

This lines up with Sony’s recent initiative of porting its major first-party PlayStation exclusives to PC after an extended window of time.

Titles like Horizon Forbidden West, Days Gone, and The Last of Us have already made the jump successfully.

While unconfirmed as of now, a PC port for Ragnarök seems like an inevitability given the series’ immense popularity and Sony’s increasing openness to the PC gaming market.

The devs have been very busy releasing important updates for the PS5 and PS4 versions and their vision for the future seems to align with the player-base.

Between the free PlayStation trial offering a generous preview and a prospective full PC release on the horizon next year, it’s an exciting time for fans of the series new and old alike.

There’s also the free Valhalla DLC that Santa Monica Studio released back in December of last year for players to be happy about too.
