Apex Legends, the popular battle royale game, is set to launch its latest limited-time event, Void Reckoning, on July 23rd. The event introduces a highly anticipated 12v12 Team Deathmatch mode, dubbed “Big TDM,” which will run for the duration of the two-week event.

The new game mode pits two teams of 12 players against each other in various locations based on fan-favourite points of interest from existing maps.

Players will enjoy enhanced health regeneration, adding a new dynamic to the typically methodical gameplay of Apex Legends.

This addition comes as a response to long-standing player requests for a larger team deathmatch experience.

Knight-Themed Cosmetics and Rewards

Void Reckoning brings a range of new cosmetic items for players to unlock. The event features 22 “Regal” or knight-themed cosmetics, including the ‘Crestfallen Stars’ Reactive Havoc skin.

Players can earn Void Points by participating in both Battle Royale and Big TDM modes, completing challenges to unlock weapon skins, charms, and other items.

Milestone rewards, such as Newcastle’s Legendary ‘Galactic Garrison’ skin, are also available as players progress through their collections.

Player Backlash Over Battle Pass Changes

However, the excitement surrounding the new event has been overshadowed by ongoing controversy regarding recent changes to the game’s Battle Pass system.

Respawn Entertainment and Electronic Arts recently announced that starting from Season 22, the Battle Pass will be split into two separate passes per season, each costing $9.99 or your currency equivalent.

Moreover, these passes can only be purchased with real-world currency, eliminating the previous option to use in-game Apex Coins.

This change has been met with significant backlash from the Apex Legends community.

Many long-time players are upset about the increased cost and the removal of the ability to earn enough Apex Coins through the Battle Pass to purchase the next season’s pass.

The controversy has led to the game being review-bombed on the Steam platform, with players expressing their dissatisfaction through negative reviews.

Apex Legends Void Reckoning Event

Despite the uproar, neither Respawn Entertainment nor Electronic Arts have addressed the Battle Pass complaints.

With Season 22 less than a month away, players continue to push for a reversal of these changes, dominating social media discussions about the game.

As Apex Legends approaches its fifth anniversary, the game continues to evolve with new content and game modes. However, the success of the Void Reckoning event and the future of the game’s monetisation strategy remain uncertain amidst the ongoing player protests.

We just gotta hope that we hear back from the devs with a reply to put all this negativity surrounding the FPS title to bed.
