The legendary id Software franchises DOOM and DOOM 2 are getting a definitive re-release, promising the ultimate way to experience these genre-defining classics. The new “DOOM + DOOM 2” bundle has surfaced on various digital storefronts, including Steam, GOG, Epic Games Store, and the console marketplaces.
This updated collection brings a host of enhancements to the original DOOM and DOOM 2 titles as spotted earlier on today by X/Twitter user @Wario64.
Running on the KEX Engine, which was also used in recent re-releases of other classic shooters, the games now feature online, cross-platform deathmatch and co-op support for up to 16 players.
The visual presentation has been upgraded as well, with support for modern resolutions up to 4K and 120fps on the PlayStation 5.
Players will also benefit from a new weapon carousel for faster weapon switching, as well as a remastered soundtrack.
But the real showstopper is the inclusion of a brand-new episode for DOOM 2, titled “Legacy of Rust.”
This original campaign was co-developed by id Software, Nightdive Studios, and MachineGames, promising to deliver fresh experiences for even the most seasoned veterans of the classic FPS.
Existing owners of either game on PlayStation 4 will be able to upgrade to the new “DOOM + DOOM 2” bundle for free, ensuring that long-time fans can easily access the definitive versions of these classic games.
For newcomers, the bundle will be available for purchase at $9.99 / £8.49.
In addition to the base games, the DOOM + DOOM 2 collection includes a wealth of additional content, such as the TNT: Evilution and The Plutonia Experiment expansions, the Master Levels for DOOM 2, and the No Rest for the Living and Sigil add-ons.
The package also comes with a brand-new Deathmatch map pack featuring 26 all-new arenas, bringing the total number of playable levels to an impressive 187 missions and 43 multiplayer maps.
With its array of modern improvements and the inclusion of a brand-new campaign, this bundle is shaping up to be the definitive way for both new and returning players to experience these iconic first-person shooters.
The iconic QuakeCon 2024 event starts today, so this leak has probably spoiled a big reveal for the developers.
