Key Highlights:
- Fortnite will allow certain battle pass items to be sold in the item shop after 18 months.
- Items eligible include outfits, emotes, and other content based on licensed properties.
- Changes won’t impact battle pass pricing or V-Bucks earnings.
For years, Fortnite has strictly maintained that battle pass items would never be obtainable after their respective seasons ended. However, in response to player feedback, Epic Games is now making a significant change to this long-standing policy.
In a recent blog post, Epic announced that certain battle pass items may be offered in Fortnite’s item shop 18 months or more after their original battle pass expired.
This includes cosmetic items like outfits, emotes, pickaxes, and other content based on popular licensed properties such as Marvel, DC Comics, and Star Wars.
“This change lets us continue investing in new and exciting Battle Pass rewards, while enabling players down the road to also enjoy the content, including Outfits based on popular licensed characters,” Epic explained in the post.
While the developer noted there’s “no guarantee” any particular battle pass item will come to the shop, they did say they’ll let players know if a future battle pass item will never be made available for purchase again.
Some previous collaborations, like the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, have already had their items rotate through the item shop.
The eligible items include not just outfits, but also back blings, pickaxes, emotes, instruments, decals, wraps, loading screens, and banner icons.
Even bonus rewards, quest rewards, and alternate styles from past battle passes could potentially become purchasable down the line.
No Changes to Battle Pass Pricing
Importantly, these changes will not impact the pricing of Fortnite’s battle passes, which will continue to cost 950 V-Bucks.
Players who purchase the battle pass can also still earn up to 1,500 V-Bucks by levelling it up, providing an incentive to engage with each season’s content.
So while Fortnite is relaxing its strict exclusivity rules, battle pass owners will still have plenty of motivation to complete the pass and acquire its unique rewards.
The new policy simply gives those who missed out a chance to acquire certain items at a later date.
“This change lets us continue investing in new and exciting Battle Pass rewards,” Epic concluded, “while enabling players down the road to also enjoy the content.”
A new season is just around the corner that’s rumoured to be the Chapter 2 OG theme with the Stark building and Marvel influence. The FNCS Grand Finals also just finished after a controversial last-minute change to nerf the desert slurp cactus 24 hours before the important event.
What do you make of the changes? Are you happy that you will be able to acquire Battle Pass items after it has expired, or are you angry at the exclusivity going? Let us know by leaving your thoughts below.
