Key Highlights:

  • New TLOU Pt2 Remastered update restores campaign unlockables lost due to previous patch.
  • Fix only works with saves created before April 3, 2025.
  • No Return mode unlockables still being investigated.

After the release of Patch 2.0.0 for The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered, some players found themselves unexpectedly stripped of their hard-earned unlockables.

The issue, tied to how the game handled campaign progression data, affected skill upgrades and holsters—items crucial for character builds and late-game survival.

With Patch 2.0.1, Naughty Dog has rolled out a remedy, but it comes with caveats.

Patch 2.0.1, now live on PS5, restores lost campaign unlockables such as the second weapon holster and skill points, but only if the affected players load a save file created prior to April 3rd, 2025.

If that window was missed and progress continued from a later save, the fix won’t retroactively apply.

Players who overwrote their early saves in anticipation of Patch 2.0.1 are now left without a recovery option, echoing Naughty Dog’s earlier warning to retain older save data until a full fix could be deployed.

While this patch addresses the single-player campaign’s inventory bug, it doesn’t yet resolve similar losses in No Return, the roguelike survival mode added in the remaster.

In that mode, several players have reported disappearing cosmetics and unlocks tied to specific characters and performance streaks.

Naughty Dog has confirmed that an additional fix for No Return is in development.

The Last of Us Part II Remastered Patch Notes 2.0.1

Patch VersionDescription
2.0.1Restores campaign unlockables, such as additional weapon holster and skill points, which were previously lost after continuing from a pre-2.0.0 save.

The timing of this patch follows closely on the heels of The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered’s PC launch on April 3rd.

Unlike TLOU Pt1’s PC debut in 2023, which suffered from performance issues and received widespread criticism—the sequel’s remastered version has fared better, holding a “Very Positive” rating on Steam after thousands of user reviews.

This smoother rollout can be attributed to improved backend optimisation and a more complete development cycle, as suggested by comparative analyses from tech reviewers.

The game’s strong PC launch coincides with the upcoming premiere of The Last of Us Season 2 on April 13th, further pushing the franchise back into the spotlight.

As the HBO adaptation returns to screens, it may drive renewed interest in the source material, just as Season 1 did for Part 1.

With stability fixes now arriving and more updates promised, TLOU Part 2 Remastered is poised to maintain its relevance across platforms.

Still, for players deep into survival runs or hunting trophies in No Return, holding off on deleting pre-update saves remains a wise precaution.
