Lego Batman is making a grand return with Legacy of the Dark Knight, a newly announced project from TT Games that aims to capture the full breadth of Batman’s history. Revealed during Gamescom Opening Night Live, the game is set to release in 2026 across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store.
The standout feature is Gotham itself. Rather than being restricted to themed levels, Gotham has been built as a fully open world, with the Batmobile ready to tear through the city’s streets. It’s a step forward for Lego titles, which typically balance linear missions with light exploration.

Combat has also shifted in a noticeable way. TT Games has taken cues from Rocksteady’s Arkham series, giving players the chance to chain combos, counters, and heavy strikes that feel more tactical than the usual button-mashing approach.
For the first time in a Lego Batman game, difficulty levels are included, with “Dark Knight mode” promising a tougher challenge for veterans.
Narratively, the game starts at Batman’s roots, with a young Bruce Wayne training with the League of Shadows before rallying allies such as Robin, Nightwing, Batgirl, Catwoman, Jim Gordon, and Talia al Ghul.
The rogues’ gallery is just as ambitious, with The Joker, The Penguin, Poison Ivy, Ra’s al Ghul, and Bane all confirmed. Matt Berry will lend his voice to Bane, adding a touch of comedy to the chaos.
This project comes at an interesting moment for TT Games. Between 2005 and 2022, the studio dominated the Lego gaming landscape with licensed releases across Marvel, DC, Harry Potter, and Star Wars. After Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, however, the flow of annual Lego titles slowed, with other developers and even Fortnite moving into Lego territory. Legacy of the Dark Knight marks a bold attempt to reclaim that spotlight by blending Lego humour with an expansive open-world adventure and a story that ties together decades of Batman lore.
As someone who has played every Lego Batman release, I can say this feels like the most ambitious take yet. TT Games is trying to deliver more than a nostalgic callback; it’s aiming for the definitive Lego Batman experience, a game that appeals to both newcomers and fans who grew up with the Dark Knight in brick form. If it hits the right balance between charm, depth, and scale, Gotham could finally feel alive in Lego form.
