  • New enemies, combat mechanics, and third-person gameplay options arrive alongside multiple purchase editions.

Ubisoft has released From the Ashes, the latest expansion for Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, bringing a significantly darker chapter to Massive Entertainment’s open-world take on Pandora. The expansion is available now on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, Amazon Luna, and via Ubisoft+, launching alongside the global theatrical release of Avatar: Fire and Ash.

Developed by Massive Entertainment in collaboration with Lightstorm Entertainment and Disney Games, From the Ashes shifts the spotlight to So’lek, a battle-hardened Na’vi warrior whose story pushes the game into more brutal and emotionally charged territory.

The expansion takes players into the Ravaged Kinglor Forest, introducing a new sub-region known as The Ravines, where Pandora’s natural beauty has been scarred by fire, conflict, and experimentation. This region forms the backdrop for the arrival of the Mangkwan raiders, also known as the Ash Clan.

For the first time in the series, players face organised Na’vi enemies. The Ash Clan rejects Eywa and embraces destruction, creating a sharp tonal shift from the factions encountered in the base game. Their presence introduces Na’vi versus Na’vi combat, raising both narrative and gameplay stakes across the Western Frontier.

Central to the story is So’lek’s history with Wukula, a Mangkwan warrior driven by vengeance after a violent encounter years earlier. Wukula relentlessly hunts So’lek throughout the expansion, joined by other dangerous figures such as Zari, a one-eyed sniper trained by Recom Lyle Wainfleet, and Rakx, who attacks from the skies using her ikran.

Heavier Combat and New Gameplay Systems

From the Ashes expands combat with enemies that demand more tactical awareness.

Each Ash Clan fighter exhibits distinct behaviours, encouraging players to read situations rather than rely on brute force. Boss encounters are more aggressive, vertical, and unpredictable, especially with aerial threats now playing a larger role.

The expansion also introduces new RDA forces and technology, including hellhounds, Skel suits, and specialised AMP suit variants built around sniper, RPG, and shotgun combat. These additions are designed to make engagements feel more dynamic across both ground and air.

Gameplay has been refined with third-person play designed as the default, while first-person remains optional. This aligns with the recent free title update released on December 5, which added New Game Plus and third-person camera support to the base game following strong community demand.

Returning Faces and Rising Tensions

Major Tyler Bukowski of RDA Sec Ops returns, coordinating cooperation between the RDA and the Ash Clan as they push deeper into the Western Frontier. Their combined efforts place the Resistance, the Sarentu, and So’lek directly in their crosshairs, escalating the conflict beyond anything seen in the base game.

Ubisoft describes From the Ashes as both a narrative and mechanical evolution, leaning into themes of grief, rage, and survival rather than exploration alone.

Editions, Pricing, and File Size

From the Ashes is available as a standalone expansion for players who own the base game, priced at £20.99 / €24.99 / $24.99. On PS5, the download weighs in at 25.760 GB and 23.52 GB on Xbox Series X|S.

Additional bundles are also available:

  • From the Ashes Edition (Base Game + Expansion): £34.99 / €39.99 / $39.99
  • Complete Edition (All content, Season Pass, Expansion, and extras): £49.99 / €59.99 / $59.99

Ubisoft+ subscribers can access the expansion as part of their subscription.

With its scorched landscapes, intense boss encounters, and the franchise’s first internal Na’vi conflict, From the Ashes represents a decisive tonal shift for Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. This is not a journey of wonder, but one of reckoning, where survival means confronting enemies who know Pandora and its people all too well.
