Saw: Genesis Revealed as New 3v1 Horror Game Published by Bloober Team

Key Highlights:

  • Saw: Genesis is a new 3v1 asymmetrical horror game announced at Summer Game Fest.
  • Bloober Team is publishing the title alongside Broken Mirror Games and Anshar Studios.
  • Players can sign up for a closed alpha ahead of its Steam Early Access launch.

The Saw franchise is making its return to gaming, but not in the way many fans expected.

Announced during Summer Game Fest, Saw: Genesis is an asymmetrical multiplayer horror game that pits one player against three others in a deadly battle of traps, survival, and impossible choices.

Rather than focusing on a single-player experience, the game embraces a competitive format that draws inspiration from titles such as Dead by Daylight and The Outlast Trials.

Set in the aftermath of World War I, Saw: Genesis introduces players to the Judge, a twisted figure who predates John Kramer’s infamous Jigsaw persona and embraces a similarly brutal philosophy.

Unlike many asymmetrical horror villains, the Judge isn’t a powerhouse capable of overpowering victims through brute force. Instead, players controlling the character must rely on strategy, traps, and manipulation to control the match from the shadows. Three opposing players take on the role of the Accused, who must work together to navigate procedurally generated environments, complete objectives, and find keys before time runs out.

According to details on the game’s Steam page, the Judge can use secret passages, noise detection systems, hallucinogenic gas, paralytic toxins, and even an accomplice to stalk and pressure survivors. If members of the Accused become trapped, they face gruesome decisions that can leave lasting consequences for the remainder of the match, including sacrificing body parts or relying on teammates for rescue.

Saw: Genesis is being developed by Anshar Studios with support from Broken Mirror Games, Bloober Team’s publishing label. Bloober Team itself is also taking a co-development role alongside its long-time collaborator. The studio recently earned praise for its work on Silent Hill 2 Remake, making this one of the more surprising horror announcements of Summer Game Fest.

This AAA title got announced at the same time as an ucoming John Wick title back in January of this year.

Players interested in trying the game early can already sign up for the closed alpha through Steam.

While the reveal trailer did not provide a firm release date, Saw: Genesis is expected to launch through Steam Early Access. Some information suggests an Early Access debut later this year, with the title likely remaining there for around twelve months, while other reports point towards a broader 2026 release window.

From my perspective, Saw: Genesis looks like an interesting fit for the franchise. The focus on moral choices and traps feels much closer to the films than simply turning Jigsaw into another unstoppable slasher. If executed well, it could give multiplayer horror fans something distinctly different from the genre’s usual formula.

With Bloober Team expanding its publishing efforts and multiplayer horror continuing to thrive, Saw: Genesis could become one of the more intriguing horror games to watch over the next year.
