Key Highlights:

  • Dead by Daylight hits a new all-time concurrent player count of 106,029 on June 17.
  • The Five Nights at Freddy’s DLC featuring Springtrap fuels the surge.
  • Breaks its previous 2021 record set during the Resident Evil crossover.

Nine years after its original launch, Dead by Daylight has once again proven its staying power.

Behaviour Interactive’s flagship asymmetric horror game has set a new all-time peak player count on Steam, drawing in 106,029 concurrent users on June 17th as per SteamDB.

The boost was driven by its latest licensed DLC: a crossover with the Five Nights at Freddy’s franchise.

This collaboration introduces Springtrap, the mangled animatronic antagonist from FNAF 3 as the newest Killer in the game.

Alongside him, the update adds themed cosmetics, including alternate skins for Springtrap, two banners, four badges, and three new achievements. The DLC is officially Dead by Daylight’s 35th to date, marking another significant milestone for the title’s ongoing evolution.

Springtrap Brings the Numbers

The power of the FNAF IP is difficult to overstate, and Behaviour’s decision to bring Springtrap into Dead by Daylight has paid off handsomely.

The previous player count record stood at 105,093, set in June 2021 during the game’s high-profile Resident Evil crossover, which introduced Leon S. Kennedy, Jill Valentine, and Nemesis as playable characters.

That record held firm for four years, despite regular content drops and free weekend promotions.

With Springtrap’s arrival, Dead by Daylight surpassed itself, making the update not just a fan favourite, but a historic moment for the game’s community.

Behaviour has long leaned into its crossover appeal, having previously partnered with franchises like Stranger ThingsChucky, and Alien.

Yet the FNAF collaboration appears to have resonated with a broader and perhaps younger demographic, expanding the game’s reach further.

Unlike many live-service titles that fade into obscurity, Dead by Daylight continues to thrive nearly a decade on.

A major factor in its resilience is its consistent rollout of fresh content and surprise collaborations that reignite player interest. Its unique position in the horror gaming landscape as a crossover hub has enabled it to tap into multiple fandoms while maintaining a strong core gameplay loop.

As of now, Dead by Daylight regularly pulls in over 50,000 players daily on Steam alone, not including untracked numbers on PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch.

And this momentum shows no sign of slowing.

Leaks suggest Behaviour is already planning more content updates, with The Walking Dead likely making an appearance in future DLC.

With record-breaking numbers and another successful crossover under its belt, DBD remains the benchmark for asymmetric horror – and its newest milestone only confirms that its best days might still be ahead.
