Behaviour Interactive has officially rolled out its Five Nights at Freddy’s collaboration onto the Dead by Daylight Public Test Build, with the full launch scheduled for June 17th, 2025.
The headline addition is Springtrap, known here as The Animatronic – a villain ripped from the core of FNaF lore and reimagined for asymmetrical horror.

This marks Springtrap’s first playable appearance in any game, making it a notable moment not just for Dead by Daylight, but for the wider Five Nights at Freddy’s franchise.
Alongside him comes a fully-realised map, new perks, an original Killer Power, and a suite of unlockable cosmetics.
Killer Spotlight: Springtrap – The Animatronic
Springtrap steps into The Fog with a kit focused on disruption, proximity control, and psychological pressure.
His Power is split between two distinct systems: the Fire Axe and the Security Network.
The Fire Axe, his primary weapon, serves as both a tool of injury and a tactical disruptor. Thrown in an arc, it creates a detection field upon landing, briefly revealing Survivors.
A direct hit embeds the axe into the target, impairing their movement until removed. If Springtrap retrieves it before they do, he triggers a terrifying jump scare followed by an automatic grab and carry.
In parallel, Security Doors activate across the map when Springtrap is selected.
These lead to a central Security Room – a hub adapted from FNaF’s infamous office. Both Killers and Survivors can enter and exit through any of the seven Doors.
From within, Survivors gain access to a camera feed system, letting them view other areas and scout Springtrap’s movements.
Every use drains a shared battery, and Springtrap can sabotage the system by striking a door, disabling both feed and teleportation for a short time.
If Springtrap intercepts a Survivor inside the Security Room or during door exit, he can bypass the chase mechanic entirely with an instant grab, another nod to his jump scare legacy.
Springtrap’s Signature Perks in DBD
Springtrap introduces three original perks that support his hunt with psychological and mechanical manipulation:
- Help Wanted: Allows Springtrap to compromise one Generator. If that Generator is completed, he gains a brief cooldown reduction on his basic attacks, pushing Survivors into a high-risk repair decision.
- Phantom Fear: Automatically triggers a scream and aura reveal when a Survivor spots Springtrap at close range, disrupting stealth plays and giving him critical tracking information.
- Haywire: Activates during the Endgame Collapse. Exit Gate progress now regresses unless Survivors commit fully, removing the “99% meta” and forcing decisive action.
Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria Map
The new map is a meticulously built representation of the original Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria.
With both indoor and outdoor areas, the level includes recognisable rooms such as the Security Office, Dining Hall, Kitchen, Janitor Room, and Arcade.
The animatronic band still stands ominously on stage, and players can expect random ambient jump scares and hidden easter eggs throughout.
Lighting, sound design, and layout design mimic the atmosphere of classic FNaF entries while allowing for Dead by Daylight’s looping and stealth-based gameplay.
Lore objects are scattered across the level for players to discover, feeding fans deeper franchise context.
Cosmetic Collection and Lore Integration
Springtrap launches with four themed outfits:
- Yellow Rabbit (Legendary) – Based on the FNaF movie. Uses Matthew Lillard’s likeness and includes custom voice lines recorded for this release.
- Glitchtrap (Legendary) – A corrupted VR-inspired version from FNaF: Help Wanted, offering a digital aesthetic twist.
- Clown Springtrap (Very Rare) – A stylised variant designed internally to channel chaotic energy.
- Toxic Springtrap (Very Rare) – Emits biohazard effects and neon detailing, giving Springtrap a grotesque, mutated appearance.
A Freddy Fazbear-themed t-shirt will be available for all original Survivors.
Behaviour chose not to include a new Survivor, instead opting to keep the identity of the “Security Guard” role abstract, mirroring FNaF’s own approach to player identity.
Creative Director Dave Richard and Killer Designer Jason Guzzo led the chapter’s creation.
Guzzo, known for Chucky and Dracula’s design, confessed via a recent DBD livestream that he watched over 70 hours of FNaF content, studying gameplay dynamics, fan expectations, and lore consistency.
The main challenge: converting FNaF’s static, defensive tension into DBD’s aggressive, real-time multiplayer format. Their solution – the Security Door mechanic – preserves that core surveillance theme while keeping matches fast-paced and competitive.
Springtrap’s Mori draws directly from his original backstory. He grabs a Survivor, lets out a deafening scream, and forces them into an animatronic endoskeleton, which then seals shut around their body, a violent homage to the “Springlock Failure” trope.
Though this Chapter does not add a new Survivor, Behaviour hinted at potential follow-ups. With the door open for more FNaF content, future updates could include additional characters or lore expansions.
Meanwhile, a separate crossover has already gone live in Assassin’s Creed Shadows via Patch 1.0.5.
It includes DBD-themed items and a side quest titled “Thrown to the Dogs,” further blending horror across Ubisoft’s franchises.
The Dead by Daylight x Five Nights at Freddy’s Chapter delivers on long-standing fan demand with a package that is both faithful and functionally robust. Springtrap’s inclusion, with all its lore, tension, and brutality, injects new fear into The Fog, both mechanically and thematically.
Come June 17, Freddy Fazbear’s will no longer be a place of static fear, it will be where Survivors run.
