Dead by Daylight’s UI Overhaul Faces Player Backlash

Dead by Daylight UI Menu Complaints

Key Highlights:

  • Dead by Daylight’s latest update changed the game’s user interface.
  • Players are unhappy with the new design.
  • The game’s developers promise to make improvements.

Dead by Daylight, the popular online horror game, is facing a tough crowd after its recent update. The game’s makers changed how things look overall by tweaking the UI, and many players aren’t happy about it. Let’s dive into what’s happening and why it matters.

The Big Change

On July 16th, Dead by Daylight got a big update called version 8.1.0, and it did more than just add new stuff to play with.

It changed how the game looks when you’re not actually playing, like when you’re picking your character or changing their outfit in the menus.

What’s Different?

The main thing that’s got players talking is the character selection screen. Before the update, all the characters a player owned were at the top of the screen.

It was easy to find your favourites. Now, those characters are mixed in with ones you don’t own. This means players have to search through everything to find the one they want to use.

Some players say the new look makes the horror title feel more like a shop trying to sell them new characters, rather than a menu for the ones they already have.

Why Are Players Upset?

There are a few reasons why the community aren’t happy with these UI changes:

  1. It’s harder to use: Players say it takes more clicks to do simple things, like switching between killer and survivor characters.
  2. It’s harder to read: Some of the writing is smaller and doesn’t stand out as well, making it tricky to read.
  3. It feels cluttered: With owned and unowned characters all mixed together, the screen feels messy and confusing.
  4. It wasn’t needed: Many players felt the old design worked fine and didn’t need changing.

The Developers’ Response

The team behind Dead by Daylight Behaviour Interactive, knows players aren’t happy. They’ve said in a reply post on X/Twitter that they’re listening to what they’re saying and plan to make some changes. Although, they haven’t said exactly what they’ll change or when it will happen.

This vague response has left some players feeling frustrated. Many want the old design back completely, but it’s not clear if that will happen.

Other Issues

The user interface isn’t the only thing players are talking about. There are a couple of other things that have come up:

  1. Game bugs: Some players have found problems in the game itself. For example, sometimes there aren’t as many generators for survivors to fix as there should be.
  2. Price changes: The game announced that some extra content (DLC) will cost a bit more on PC starting July 22nd. They say this is to make prices fair across different gaming systems.

It’s not all bad news, though. The devs have already made one change based on what players said. They’ve put the cosmetic and character selection screens back to four columns instead of three.

This shows they are willing to listen and make changes when players speak up.

What’s Next for Dead by Daylight?

There’s nothing from with how the gameplay looks, but the UI needs sorting

Dead by Daylight is heading into its ninth year, and the developers have plans for more updates. The new 2V8 mode has just been released and Lara Croft is now in the game too in a major crossover.

They’re also making it easier for players to keep their progress when they switch between different gaming systems (like from a PlayStation to a PC).

This is called cross-progression, and it’s a feature many players have wanted for a long time.

Make no mistake, the Dead by Daylight team has some work to do to make their players happy again. They’ve shown they’re willing to listen and make changes, which is a good sign.

But they’ll need to be clearer about their plans and act quickly if they want to keep their fans excited and their attention spans firmly fixed on the asymmetric online survival horror title.

For now, players will have to wait and see what changes come next. Will the developers bring back the old design, or will they find a new solution that makes everyone happy? Only time will tell, but we’ll keep you up to date on any news that develops right here on GLN.
