Xbox Game Pass Starter Edition has expanded again, with eligible Meta Horizon+ subscribers now receiving access to Microsoft’s entry-level Game Pass offering as part of their existing membership.
Microsoft and Meta announced the partnership on 21 July 2026. The benefit provides more than 50 Xbox games alongside 10 hours of cloud gaming each month, giving Meta Quest owners another route into the Xbox ecosystem without requiring a separate Game Pass subscription.
The addition is included at no extra cost for eligible Horizon+ subscribers. Meta Horizon+ currently costs £7.99 / $7.99 per month or £59.99 / $59.99 annually, and its existing catalogue contains more than 100 VR games. Adding the Game Pass selection pushes the combined number of available titles beyond 150, although the two libraries operate differently.

Xbox Game Pass Starter Edition includes games such as Fallout 4, Fallout 76, Grounded, DayZ, Naraka Bladepoint, and Smite 2. The complete Starter catalogue contains more than 50 curated titles rather than providing access to the much larger libraries available through Microsoft’s main Game Pass tiers.
The Meta partnership also makes an important distinction about how those games can be played. Starter subscribers receive 10 hours of Xbox Cloud Gaming each month, while supported games can also be downloaded for local play on compatible PC and Xbox hardware.
Progress can carry between supported devices through cloud saves. The membership also includes Xbox Rewards, while multiplayer is supported through PC and cloud gaming. Online console multiplayer is not included, making the limitation more specific than simply saying Starter Edition lacks online play.
Xbox Game Pass Starter Edition on Meta Quest
For Meta Quest owners, Xbox games are accessed through the free Xbox app available from the Horizon Store. Game Pass streaming on Quest itself is not new, but bundling Starter Edition directly into Horizon+ gives subscribers access without needing a separate qualifying Game Pass membership.
Playing through a Quest headset places the streamed Xbox game on a large virtual display. Players can adjust the screen size, with the virtual display extending up to 26 feet, and an Xbox-themed immersive environment is also available.
Meta is also working to remove one of the hardware requirements associated with playing traditional games through a VR headset. A gamepad emulator planned for the coming weeks will map Xbox controls onto the Quest Touch controllers, allowing supported games to be played without connecting a separate controller.
Game Pass Starter Is Becoming Microsoft’s Partnership Tier
The Meta Horizon+ arrangement is the second major distribution deal for Xbox Game Pass Starter Edition.
Microsoft introduced Starter through Discord Nitro in May 2026, providing eligible subscribers with a smaller Game Pass catalogue and 10 monthly hours of cloud gaming. Instead of selling Starter as another conventional standalone Game Pass subscription, Microsoft has so far used the tier as an added benefit within other companies’ memberships.
Meta Horizon+ follows that same model.
The strategy gives Microsoft access to audiences that may not already subscribe to Game Pass. In Meta’s case, that includes Quest owners primarily interested in VR who can now experiment with conventional Xbox games through hardware they already own.
There is an obvious benefit for Meta as well. Horizon+ remains centred on VR software, but including more than 50 Xbox titles increases the range of games attached to the subscription without raising its current membership price.
The partnership also continues an existing relationship between the two companies. Xbox Cloud Gaming has been available through Meta Quest headsets before the Starter deal, and Meta already sells compatible Xbox controllers for use with its hardware.
There are still restrictions to consider. Availability depends on supported regions, compatible hardware, and a Microsoft account. The monthly cloud allowance is also capped at 10 hours, meaning frequent cloud players may find the Starter Edition considerably more restrictive than Microsoft’s higher Game Pass tiers.
For players with a Quest headset alongside a gaming PC or Xbox console, the value proposition is stronger because supported games can be downloaded rather than relying entirely on the monthly streaming allowance.
The bigger story, however, is how Microsoft is positioning Starter. Discord Nitro established the model in May, and Meta Horizon+ has now expanded it to another large technology platform.
Rather than asking new players to immediately purchase a full Game Pass membership, Microsoft can give them a limited version through a subscription they already use. Starter Edition therefore functions as both a gaming benefit and a potential entry point into the wider Xbox ecosystem.
