Key Highlights:

  • DayZ: Badlands launches on October 15, 2026, introducing Nasdara, the largest official DayZ map at more than 267km².
  • Nasdara adds extreme heat, scarce water, motorcycles, regional weapons and more than 5,000 houses that can be rebuilt or barricaded.
  • Personal radio transmissions can lead players towards valuable loot, while the new rebuilding system introduces brick, mortar and battery-powered code locks.

Bohemia Interactive has confirmed that DayZ: Badlands launches on October 15, 2026, bringing its desert survival expansion to PC and consoles with the new Nasdara Province map.

The Gamescom release-date trailer provides another look at Nasdara’s survival systems, rebuildable houses, motorcycles and radio-based loot hunting. Bohemia describes the expansion as a 267km² arid region where water, shelter and ammunition can become equally important resources.

Nasdara is the largest official terrain created for DayZ so far.

The province sits within the wider fictional country of Takistan, west of Chernarus and along the border with Ardistan. Bohemia built Nasdara as a new environment rather than reusing the Takistan terrain previously seen in Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead.

Its scale is partly a consequence of the environment itself.

Bohemia wanted the arid landscape to feel expansive while also creating a believable boundary around the playable area. Roads can disappear beneath sand, bridges collapse before reaching the edge, power lines become damaged and object density gradually decreases as players approach the outer mountains and desert.

Survival will differ substantially from Chernarus, Livonia and Sakhal.

Nasdara contains very little standing water, and broken wells cannot simply be relied upon when players arrive. Prolonged exposure to the environment can progress from sweating into increasingly severe consequences and eventually death if players fail to manage hydration.

Clothing consequently becomes another survival decision.

Regional equipment includes lighter Kameez tunics, Shalwar trousers, sandals, dust goggles, keffiyehs, turbans and pakol hats. The clothing pool is designed around heat, sunlight, dust and long periods of exposed travel rather than the insulation demands associated with colder DayZ environments.

I think that change could make basic clothing choices unusually important because equipment that would normally look inferior on paper may become more useful when insulation itself becomes a liability.

Nasdara will also introduce DayZ’s first two-wheeled vehicles.

Bohemia has confirmed both a moped and dirt bike alongside the new physics and mechanics required to support motorcycles. The expansion’s release-date trailer again highlights motorcycles as one of Badlands’ major new systems.

Loot acquisition is changing as well.

Personal radios can receive transmissions containing information about valuable supplies. Players will need to interpret those broadcasts and use the resulting information to track down loot locations rather than relying entirely on conventional military, residential or industrial spawn routes.

The system fits a wider change Bohemia has already begun making to DayZ’s Central Economy.

Update 1.29 adjusted the placement and rarity of several weapons and equipment types ahead of Badlands. Some firearms can now appear around locations such as farms, while NBC equipment is no longer restricted to its previous group of medical, fire-service and high-tier military areas.

That update also brought several Badlands assets into the base game early.

The SCR-17 battle rifle, Holo Sights, tanker helmets, military caps, desert camouflage equipment and redesigned Nasdara military convoys arrived through the Road to Badlands update in July. Bohemia described the update as a bridge between DayZ 1.29 and the expansion’s 1.30 release.

Badlands itself expands the regional arsenal further.

Bohemia has shown weapons including a Shamshir-style scimitar, Jambiya curved dagger, Akinaka, police baton and Döner knife alongside additional firearms designed around Nasdara’s setting. Its infected population also receives region-specific clothing, dust, sweat, sun exposure and weathering.

The more substantial long-term addition may be the Rebuilding System.

Instead of relying exclusively on DayZ’s existing modular fences and gates, players can restore or barricade selected ruined houses across Nasdara. Bohemia says the system is deliberately flexible enough to support anything from a small stash room to a multi-storey squad base.

More than 5,000 houses can be rebuilt across the map.

Those structures appear in around 20 damaged variants split between mud and stone houses. The architectural type does not determine durability, but the amount of damage changes how many materials players need before a structure can be fully restored.

Players do not need to restore an entire property.

A survivor can repair one room, install a door, replace windows or completely block an entrance while leaving the rest of the building damaged. More remote properties generally require greater investment but are deliberately positioned in quieter areas that may make stronger long-term base locations.

Restoration introduces brick and mortar alongside a new trowel.

Existing materials such as logs, planks and metal sheets remain usable, allowing wooden restoration, brick construction and mixed barricades around windows and doorways. Clearing rubble can also return some building materials to the player.

The existing DayZ base-building system is not being removed.

Players can still construct traditional compounds, meaning the rebuilding mechanic supplements fences and freestanding structures rather than replacing them.

Wells can also become part of the rebuilding loop.

Some damaged wells in Nasdara will require restoration before they provide drinking water, turning access to one of the desert’s most important resources into something survivors can influence at a server level.

Bohemia wants those choices to make different servers evolve differently over time.

A ruined settlement may remain untouched on one server while another group gradually restores houses, secures water and turns the same location into an occupied settlement or defended base.

Base security is changing through a new code lock as well.

The battery-powered lock works on rebuilt doors and existing fences, requires a charged V9 battery and automatically unlocks if that battery runs out. Damaged unattached locks can be repaired using electronic kits.

The lock also includes brute-force protection.

Repeated incorrect PIN attempts eventually cause it to temporarily reject additional codes, with the restriction escalating if unsuccessful attempts continue. Bohemia has confirmed that the code lock will not remain exclusive to Nasdara and is also planned for other DayZ maps.

Badlands follows DayZ’s 2024 Frostline expansion, which moved survival in the opposite climatic direction with the frozen Sakhal archipelago.

Nasdara instead completes another environmental extreme with intense heat, drought, desert terrain and equipment designed specifically around surviving prolonged exposure.

Bohemia originally announced Badlands in June 2025 with only a broad 2026 release window and a planned price below $25. July’s rebuilding reveal later narrowed that window to October before the Gamescom trailer established the October 15 launch date.

The Nintendo Switch 2 version came out a week ago too, so there’s plenty going.

DayZ: Badlands is coming to PC and supported PlayStation and Xbox platforms on October 15. Bohemia has not yet replaced its original promise that the expansion will be priced below $25 with a final retail price.
