Key Highlights:
- NexusRPG entered full release on 4 September as a free-to-play text-based browser MMORPG with no download required.
- Eight Classes are determined by Main Hand and Off-hand equipment, allowing one character to change combat roles.
- Personal and Clan Dungeons preserve progress between visits, while optional purchases can affect gameplay and progression.
Released on 4 September, NexusRPG is a free-to-play text-based MMORPG that runs directly in modern desktop, tablet and phone browsers, combining persistent character progression with a shared online world and no required download.
Rather than creating separate characters for different roles, players develop one lasting character. Main Hand and Off-hand equipment determine the active Class, with eight available combinations covering Warrior, Berserker, Duelist, Mage, Sorcerer, Amazon, Paladin and Assassin.
Changing the relevant equipment can therefore change Class without abandoning existing character progression. Earned Stat Points are separately assigned across attributes including Strength, Dexterity, Intelligence, Vitality, Luck, Explorer and Gatherer.
NexusRPG also launched with a permanent-progression commitment. There was no full-release wipe, and the developer says there are no planned resets for player accounts, characters or earned progression. Scheduled weekly, monthly and seasonal competitions can still reset according to their individual rules.
One of the more unusual systems is its approach to Dungeons.
Personal and Clan Dungeons generate persistent labyrinths rather than disposable single-session encounters. Leaving preserves the explored map, current position, cleared rooms, opened Chests and other progress, allowing the same Dungeon to be continued during a later session or from another device.
Normal Dungeon battles also store Character XP and Gold until the labyrinth reaches completion, while Chest rewards are awarded immediately.
Outside Dungeons, the shared world stretches across five connected Planes with combat, World Bosses, Gathering, Crafting, Pets, quests, a player-controlled Market and Clans.
Kingdoms push the multiplayer side further into strategy territory. Players can claim individual territories, develop populations and facilities, collect local taxes, maintain armies and fortifications and attack other Kingdoms. Every coordinate across the five 100×100 Plane maps can potentially operate as an independent Kingdom.
The free-to-play model is worth understanding before jumping in because NexusRPG does not restrict its paid content to cosmetics.
Credits can be used for permanent upgrades, Autos, boosts and other systems, while Supporter Rank is based on verified lifetime purchases and provides progression or convenience benefits. The developer describes its competitive mode as Fair PvP, where direct purchased Shop combat-stat percentages are removed from the calculation, although Supporter Rank itself remains part of the complete build.
I think that monetisation detail is the most important caveat for anyone deciding whether NexusRPG suits them, because paid progression exists even though the competitive rules attempt to separate out some directly purchased combat power. If you grind the game though, there is still plenty of scope to build competitive power through normal progression rather than taking the microtransaction route.
The UK iOS version makes that particularly visible. Its App Store purchases currently include options such as taking Battle Skills to Level 65 for £99.99, Crafting Skills to Level 250 for £99.99 and completing all World Journeys for £149.99.
There is also now a native NexusRPG app for iPhone and iPad, despite the game being fully playable through a browser. Apple lists shared cross-device account progression with nxrpg.com, meaning the same persistent character can continue between the web and iOS versions.
Development has remained active since the full release, with a substantial update on 20 September expanding several of NexusRPG’s existing systems. Clan Capitals can now be established in Heaven and Hell, allowing members to contribute resources, construct shared buildings and organise timed rallies, while Clan Armories let permitted members lend equipment and Pets to one another.
The same update replaced the earlier Enchanting and Disenchanting system with Gem Crafting, introducing permanent equipment sockets and craftable Gems. Pets can now grow, work, breed and contribute stats during combat, while reworked Rifts add personal and Clan contests, shared Rift Dungeons and participation rewards.
Anyone using the browser version needs a NexusRPG account, email verification and an internet connection, with no guest mode available.
