Key Highlights:
- Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.5 launches free on October 22 for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
- Cyberware customisation and a new dual-wielding playstyle are among the first confirmed features.
- Nintendo Switch 2 will receive the update later, while a Mac release has not yet been confirmed.
CD Projekt Red has announced Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.5, a free Edgerunners 2-themed update launching on October 22 with cyberware customisation, a new dual-wielding playstyle and additional features still to be revealed.
The update arrives just two days after the premiere of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2, which released all ten episodes on Netflix on October 20. CDPR says Update 2.5 will include content inspired by the new anime alongside other additions to Cyberpunk 2077.
A closer look is coming before the update itself. CD Projekt Red will host a special REDstreams presentation on October 21 at 4:00 PM BST / 5 PM CEST, where the developer plans to demonstrate some of Update 2.5’s new features. The complete patch notes are also scheduled to be published that day.
Cyberware customisation is one of the first confirmed additions, although CDPR has not yet explained how extensive the system will be or which implants players will be able to alter. Cyberware has already become a much larger part of character building since the gameplay overhaul introduced around Phantom Liberty, making Update 2.5’s new customisation options particularly interesting for existing builds.
The other major tease is a new dual-wielding playstyle. CDPR has deliberately stopped short of detailing exactly how it works, so it remains unclear which weapons support it, whether it requires particular perks or cyberware, and how deeply it integrates with existing character builds.
From a gameplay perspective, that is the feature I would watch most closely during REDstreams. If CDPR is introducing genuine simultaneous weapon use rather than a limited contextual mechanic, dual-wielding could affect combat builds far more significantly than a straightforward anime crossover normally would.
There is also something unusual about the update number itself.
CD Projekt Red’s previous full numbered release was Patch 2.31 on September 11, 2025, which followed Update 2.3 earlier that year. The studio’s official Cyberpunk 2077 news history contains no released Update 2.4 between 2.31 and today’s announcement, meaning CDPR has jumped directly to Update 2.5.
The developer has not explained why version 2.4 was skipped.
Platform availability is another detail worth watching.
Update 2.5 will launch on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on October 22. CD Projekt Red says the Nintendo Switch 2 version will follow shortly, but no exact date has been announced.
Mac is notably absent from the current Update 2.5 platform announcement. Cyberpunk 2077’s previous Patch 2.31 was released on Mac alongside PC and the current consoles, but CDPR has not yet said whether Update 2.5 will also reach Apple’s platform.
Those unanswered questions should become clearer during REDstreams on October 21. Until then, cyberware customisation and dual-wielding are the only major gameplay features CD Projekt Red has publicly identified, with the full scope of the Edgerunners 2 content still being kept under wraps.
