Key Highlights:

  • WoW Forever launches with nine playable classes, updated talents and six new race-and-class combinations.
  • The new Skyborne race has different class options depending on whether players choose Horde or Alliance.
  • Talents unlock at level 10, with Dual Specialisation available at level 40.

With World of Warcraft: Forever launching on 4 November 2026, players will soon face one of the most familiar decisions in Azeroth: which class to choose. Blizzard has confirmed nine playable classes, bringing back the original line-up while introducing revised talents, updated abilities and new race combinations.

Blizzard’s official Class Highlights video above offers a closer look at the updated classes and their abilities in action, with two further videos in the same playlist covering the remaining classes and their playstyles.

Although the classes themselves will feel familiar to longtime players, Forever introduces changes designed to give each one more flexibility. Whether you prefer exploring alone, fighting on the front line or supporting a group, understanding the available options could help you decide where to begin.

For returning players, there’s also an opportunity to experiment with combinations that weren’t previously available in the original game.

All Nine WoW Forever Classes

The nine classes available at launch are Warrior, Paladin, Hunter, Rogue, Priest, Shaman, Mage, Warlock and Druid. Each has its own combat style, specialisations and available group roles.

What’s Changing With Classes in WoW Forever?

Blizzard is keeping the foundations of the original World of Warcraft class system, but updating abilities and talent trees to offer more meaningful choices.

Talents become available at level 10, with the familiar milestone structure at 11, 21 and 31 points joined by an additional 16-point milestone. Some important group abilities, including Blessing of Kings and Improved Mark of the Wild, are also becoming baseline rather than requiring talent investment.

Dual Specialisation will become available at level 40, allowing players to maintain two talent setups. Changing talents, including Legacy talents, still requires visiting a class trainer in a major city.

Several classes are also receiving more individual changes. Mages can explore new combinations of Frost and Fire magic, including Frostfire Bolt, while Shamans benefit from changes to totem management and weapon imbues.

Paladins will receive adjustments to their Seals and Judgements, alongside expanded possibilities for healing, tanking and damage. Hunters retain their focus on ranged combat and animal companions, with talent updates across Beast Mastery, Marksmanship and Survival.

These changes don’t necessarily mean every build will perform equally. However, they give players more possibilities to consider instead of simply repeating the builds they remember from Classic.

Six New Race and Class Combinations

One of WoW Forever’s more interesting additions is the expansion of race and class combinations. Blizzard has confirmed six previously unavailable options.

For returning players, these combinations offer an opportunity to experience familiar starting areas through a different class.

The Undead Paladin is particularly interesting because of the contrast between the Forsaken and the Holy Light, while a Dwarf Shaman introduces elemental combat to a race previously unable to choose the class.

Rather than introducing a tenth class, Blizzard is creating new possibilities within the existing nine.

What Classes Can the New Skyborne Play?

Forever also introduces the Skyborne, a playable race whose faction allegiance is chosen during character creation.

Alliance-aligned High Order Skyborne can become Warriors, Hunters, Rogues, Druids or Mages.

Horde-aligned Windshaper Skyborne can become Warriors, Hunters, Rogues, Druids or Shamans.

This means four classes are shared between the two factions, while Mage and Shaman are exclusive to their respective Skyborne allegiances.

Skyborne characters begin on Zephras Isle, a new starting area designed for levels 1–12. However, access to the Skyborne race and its starting experience requires the Skyborne Heroic Pack or a higher eligible edition.

Players planning to create a Skyborne character should therefore check their edition before launch.

Which Class Should You Choose?

For newcomers or players who enjoy exploring Azeroth independently, Hunter is worth considering. Its combination of ranged combat and animal companions offers an appealing starting point for those who prefer travelling with a companion.

Those who enjoy traditional spellcasting might prefer Mage, while Warlock provides an alternative built around dark magic and demonic allies.

Players interested in healing or supporting groups have several options, including Priest, Shaman, Paladin and Druid. Meanwhile, Warrior and Paladin appeal to those who enjoy protecting allies on the front line.

Druid is particularly interesting for anyone unsure which role they want to pursue, thanks to its ability to switch between different forms and combat styles.

Having spent years playing World of Warcraft, I’ve always enjoyed how choosing a class can shape your entire adventure. I originally found myself far more interested in exploring Azeroth than rushing towards raids, so I understand the appeal of choosing a class around the journey rather than its potential endgame performance.

For that reason, I’d encourage players to think about how they actually enjoy spending their time. Someone who loves exploring and questing might value different abilities from someone planning to focus on group dungeons or PvP.

Players have already had the opportunity to experiment with different classes, talents and playstyles during the five-week WoW Forever beta, giving Blizzard valuable feedback ahead of release. Although the beta officially closed on 23 October, there’s still time to explore the confirmed class changes before choosing your first character at launch. You can read more about the beta’s conclusion and Blizzard’s final launch preparations in our latest WoW Forever update.

Should You Plan Your Build Before Launch?

Blizzard has published detailed information on the changes coming to each class, giving players an opportunity to explore potential talent directions before release.

However, choosing a class and planning a complete build are two different things. While the announced talents provide useful information, Blizzard has stated that class abilities and balance may continue to change.

Players can already consider whether they’d prefer a damage-focused, healing or tanking playstyle, but final talent builds will be easier to assess once Forever launches and its systems can be tested in normal gameplay.

With nine classes, new combinations and updated talent options, World of Warcraft: Forever offers plenty of ways to begin a new adventure.

The best starting choice may ultimately be the one that makes you want to explore Azeroth rather than the one promising the highest damage numbers.
