Ubisoft has released Title Update 1.0.8 for Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced today, 27 October 2026, introducing New Game+, Nightmare difficulty, additional rewards and numerous bug fixes. The update is available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, marking the remake’s final major content release.
The patch went live at 2pm GMT, with download sizes varying considerably between platforms. Xbox Series X|S players face the largest download at 15.5 GB, compared with 4.5 GB on PS5, 4.3 GB on PC and just 2.1 GB through Steam.
New Game+ is the biggest addition, allowing players to restart Edward Kenway’s Caribbean adventure while retaining previously unlocked weapons, tools, trinkets, money, inventory resources and equipment upgrades.
The Jackdaw also keeps its upgrades, pets and unlocked officer abilities, while hideout progression and the Kenway Fleet carry over. However, the system comes with several important restrictions.
Story missions, active quests, quest items, map discovery and captured forts all reset. Players must also progress through the story to regain access to certain upgraded features, including the Jackdaw and hideout. Previously recruited officers must be recruited again before they physically appear aboard the ship.
Ubisoft has designed New Game+ around increasingly difficult playthroughs. Players can restart their adventure up to five times, with more Elite Soldiers appearing and maximum-rank enemy ships patrolling the Caribbean as the difficulty increases.
A new currency called Escudos also introduces exclusive rewards. Players earn it by completing challenges, reopening previously looted chests or exchanging Reales at General Stores. Escudos can then be spent on New Game+ outfits and other items without changing the prices of existing goods sold for Reales.
Nightmare Mode offers an additional challenge, increasing enemy damage to 1.8 times the normal amount, tightening parry windows and removing the white warning glint before attacks. It also disables the protection that previously prevented certain attacks from killing Edward instantly.
Stealth becomes considerably less forgiving, with faster enemy detection and greater sensitivity to movement. Edward must now remain at least six metres above enemies to avoid detection from elevated positions, rather than the previous four metres.
Importantly, Ubisoft has confirmed that Nightmare settings can be enabled independently for combat, stealth, naval encounters and other activities. Players can also change these settings regardless of their story progression, meaning a New Game+ playthrough is not required.
I think that flexibility is one of the update’s strongest features. Players can make naval battles considerably more dangerous without necessarily accepting the same punishing difficulty during every stealth encounter.
Elsewhere, Ubisoft has restored several takedown animations from the original game, including hidden blade, unarmed, single-sword and gunblade executions. Additional microkill and double-takedown variations now occur randomly during combat.
The update also expands the customisation systems previously covered in our Black Flag Resynced gameplay deep dive, introducing new outfits, sails, crew customisation options, pet appearances and trinkets.
Six hidden community chests have also been scattered throughout the Caribbean, with some containing rewards requested by players. Ubisoft has deliberately avoided providing straightforward clues to their locations.
Beyond the new content, Title Update 1.0.8 addresses numerous gameplay, progression and stability issues. These include a bug preventing offline launches after connection loss, freezes during tavern board games, missing quest objectives and an issue that stopped players from raising the Jackdaw’s travel sails.
Several progression blockers have also been fixed, including problems affecting This Tyro Captain, The Traveling Salesman, We Demand a Parley and A World Without Gold. Ubisoft has additionally improved stability, corrected audio issues and resolved a mouse-and-keyboard problem affecting underwater diving. Players can find every individual change in the official Title Update 1.0.8 patch notes.
Although this is Black Flag Resynced’s final major content update, Ubisoft plans to continue releasing smaller quality-of-life improvements over the coming months.
