Ubisoft has confirmed that Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will finally receive New Game+ on 5 November 2026, allowing players to restart Eivor’s Viking adventure while retaining much of their previous progression.
The announcement comes as Valhalla surpasses 40 million players worldwide, almost six years after its November 2020 launch. According to Ubisoft’s Fall 2026 franchise update, New Game+ will include dedicated difficulty scaling, giving returning players a reason to experiment with different builds and previously acquired equipment.
However, the biggest surprise is that New Game+ was never supposed to happen.
In November 2022, Ubisoft explicitly ruled out the feature after investigating its implementation. The developer explained in its original post-launch announcement that Valhalla’s unusually extensive structure made creating a rewarding replay experience difficult.
At the time, Ubisoft was preparing The Last Chapter, which it described as the game’s final content update. Valhalla had also surpassed 20 million players, meaning its reported player milestone has doubled since that announcement.
I think that reversal is the most interesting part of today’s news. Valhalla has always offered plenty to explore, but players who invested heavily in Eivor’s progression could not simply restart the campaign with their favourite equipment. Ubisoft is now addressing that long-standing limitation nearly four years after abandoning the idea.
The announcement also follows the recent New Game+ update for Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, although Ubisoft has not confirmed that Valhalla will follow the same rules for retained items, reset objectives or successive playthroughs.
Beyond restarting the story, the November update introduces an optional progression mode in which Gear, Runes and Masteries all contribute towards Eivor’s overall Power. This potentially gives equipment choices a more direct influence on character progression, rather than relying solely on the existing skill-based Power system.
A new resource called Mithril will also be introduced to upgrade Divine Gear and strengthen runes. Divine-quality equipment originally arrived alongside the Dawn of Ragnarök expansion in 2022, but Ubisoft is now extending that quality tier to all items, expanding the potential for further equipment upgrades.
Additional improvements include a stash system, new runes, achievements and rewards. One notable cosmetic addition is a Master Assassin outfit inspired by Naoe from Assassin’s Creed Shadows, whose story concluded earlier this year in the Black Tides final content update.
There are still some unanswered questions. Ubisoft has not detailed precisely which parts of Eivor’s progression will carry over, what happens to settlement upgrades or whether any equipment will be excluded. The requirements for unlocking New Game+ also remain unconfirmed.
Full patch notes are expected in the coming days, alongside separate information concerning current-generation console updates. For now, 5 November is the confirmed release date, with further technical details and any platform-specific changes still awaiting clarification.
