Key Highlights:

  • PS4 system software update 14.02 was released on November 4, 2026, with security fixes.
  • Sony has not identified which vulnerabilities were addressed or announced any new features.
  • The update follows September’s 14.00 firmware and a similar PS5 security patch released earlier this week.

PS4 update 14.02 is now available to download, bringing another round of security fixes to Sony’s PlayStation 4 console without introducing any new features or interface changes.

Released on November 4, 2026, the firmware arrives nearly seven weeks after PS4 update 14.00, which focused on improving system performance and stability.

Sony’s official patch notes for version 14.02 contain just one change:

  • We’ve made some security fixes to the system software.

The company has not provided additional technical details, identified the vulnerabilities addressed or confirmed whether the update blocks any particular jailbreak method.

Recent reports have linked the update’s timing to a jailbreak targeting PS4 firmware 14.00. However, there is no official confirmation that version 14.02 specifically fixes that exploit.

I wouldn’t describe this as a confirmed anti-jailbreak update without evidence. Sony has acknowledged security improvements, but identifying the vulnerabilities they address is a different matter.

The update also follows PS5 system software version 26.07-14.22.00, released on November 2, which carries the same brief security-related patch note.

Security maintenance remains part of Sony’s support for the ageing console. The company previously issued PS4 firmware 12.52 in July 2025 with similarly limited security notes, demonstrating that updates of this kind are nothing new.

How to download PS4 update 14.02: Open Settings > System Software Update on your console. If the latest firmware is available and has not already been installed, the PS4 will begin downloading it.

Sony also provides instructions for updating through a USB drive and Safe Mode on its official PS4 system software support page.

For players using their PS4 normally, the update is primarily about maintaining system security rather than adding new functionality.
