Key Highlights:

  • Insomniac Games has shared a brief Electro clip, but the post uses the #SpiderManPC hashtag rather than referencing Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.
  • Nothing in the April 8 post confirms Electro as a villain in the upcoming PS5 sequel.
  • Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is currently scheduled for fall 2023 as a single-player PS5 game starring Peter Parker and Miles Morales, with Venom already confirmed.

Insomniac Games has shared a brief clip featuring Electro, but there is no indication that the footage is a teaser for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.

The two-second social post published on April 8 asks whether Electro ever has to worry about electric bills and includes the #SpiderManPC hashtag. It does not mention Spider-Man 2, PlayStation 5 or a new role for Electro.

That information matters for anyone waiting for fresh Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 news. Electro is already an established villain in Insomniac’s original Marvel’s Spider-Man, while the hashtag used alongside the clip points towards the PC release of that game rather than the upcoming sequel.

Insomniac has revealed relatively little about Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 so far. The studio announced the sequel in September 2021, confirming that Peter Parker and Miles Morales will return for what it describes as a single-player adventure built for PlayStation 5.

Venom is also confirmed for the sequel, with Tony Todd providing the character’s voice. The original reveal footage showed Peter and Miles fighting together before Venom appeared at the end of the trailer.

A more specific release window was confirmed in December 2022, with Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 scheduled to arrive in fall 2023. An exact launch date has not yet been announced.

For now, the April Electro clip should therefore not be treated as confirmation that Max Dillon will return in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. Unless Insomniac announces the character separately, the post is better understood as Spider-Man PC promotion rather than a sequel reveal.

Later update: Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 story spoilers follow.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 launched for PS5 on October 20, 2023, and Electro did not return as an active villain.

The finished game instead reveals that Kraven the Hunter had killed Electro off-screen as part of his hunt for powerful opponents. Evidence discovered during the story includes Electro’s equipment among Kraven’s possessions.

That later revelation resolves the original question surrounding the April clip. Electro ultimately became part of the sequel’s wider story context, but Insomniac’s April 8 post was not a Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Electro teaser.
