Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has received a substantial update on PC, aiming to resolve various performance issues and introduce new features.

Since its launch on PC, the game has been met with both excitement and frustration. While many players were thrilled to experience Insomniac Games’ critically acclaimed sequel on a new platform, the port suffered from bugs, crashes, and stability problems.

With update version 1.212.1.0, Insomniac has addressed many of these concerns, improving the overall experience.

Performance and Stability Improvements

Performance issues have been a major complaint among PC players, particularly regarding crashes and graphical instability.

This update resolves a variety of crashes, including one that occurred during the final Mysterio mission while wearing the Bodega Cat Suit, and another when closing the menu while an audio fragment was playing.

Additionally, screen space reflections have been improved, enhancing the game’s visual fidelity.

One of the most significant changes involves AMD graphics cards. To improve stability, Anti-Lag 2 has been temporarily removed, with further optimisations expected in future updates.

Insomniac has also acknowledged additional issues related to AMD GPUs, which may require an updated driver from the manufacturer.

Graphical Enhancements and New Features

Beyond fixing crashes, Insomniac has introduced notable graphical improvements. The game now supports NVIDIA DLSS Ray Reconstruction, allowing for better performance at native resolution and with Ultra Performance upscaling.

This change aims to provide a smoother, more responsive gaming experience, especially for those with high-end GPUs.

Another important fix relates to XeGTAO, a graphics rendering issue that previously caused problems when Anti-Aliasing was disabled or Ray Reconstruction was enabled.

Players should now experience more consistent lighting and shadow rendering across different settings.

Control and UI Adjustments

Given the game’s fast-paced combat and traversal, controller and input improvements were a priority in this update.

Mouse sensitivity settings have been adjusted to allow for more precise customisation. Additionally, players can now use Nintendo Switch Pro controllers via Steam Input, expanding the range of supported peripherals.

A bug affecting New Game+ mode has also been resolved. Previously, players using a mouse and keyboard were unable to pick up the Sleeping Dart in the mission “The Flames Have Been Lit.” This issue has now been fixed, ensuring smoother gameplay progression.
