Key Highlights:
- Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 update 1.005.001 is now live with improvements to Peter Parker’s Fresh Start suit.
- Insomniac says the changes were made in response to player feedback following complaints about the suit’s colours and materials.
- Community comparisons show a deeper red, brighter blue, reduced shine and restored battle damage, although Insomniac has not published a detailed change list.
Insomniac Games has released another Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 update less than two weeks after adding the Fresh Start suit inspired by Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
Update 1.005.001 is live now, and Insomniac says it contains improvements to the Fresh Start suit “based on player feedback.” The studio has not published a full breakdown of every visual change included in the hotfix.
The new patch follows update 1.005.000, which launched on July 28 with the Fresh Start suit and a second costume inspired by MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls. That larger update also added enhanced PSSR support for PS5 Pro and Power Saver mode on PS5 consoles.
GLN first reported in June that the Brand New Day-inspired Fresh Start suit would arrive as a free update before the film’s release. Insomniac originally revealed the costume with a more vivid red-and-blue appearance, but some players felt the in-game version looked noticeably different once it became available.
The criticism focused mainly on the suit’s colour balance and material response under different lighting conditions. Players described the red sections as too orange in some scenes, while the blue appeared less accurate to the movie design. Others criticised the glossy surface treatment and reported visual inconsistencies when the suit became wet or damaged.
Those complaints were not limited to a handful of isolated posts. Comparison threads across the Spider-Man community attracted hundreds of votes and comments, with several players specifically calling for Insomniac to revise the colours and textures.
Community comparisons following update 1.005.001 now show a noticeably deeper red, a brighter blue and less shine across parts of the fabric. Players have also reported that battle damage now appears correctly on the Fresh Start suit and that some lighting problems, including its appearance under overcast conditions, have been improved.
Those visual differences are observable in player comparisons, but they should not be treated as an official patch-note list. Insomniac has only confirmed that the suit received unspecified improvements based on feedback.
I think that distinction makes this update more interesting than a routine cosmetic tweak. Insomniac did not simply fix a documented crash or clipping bug. It appears to have revisited the artistic presentation of a newly released suit after players argued that the in-game result did not sufficiently match the design that inspired it.
This is not the first time Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has received targeted suit corrections. An earlier Spider-Man 2 update fixed multiple costume-specific problems, including distorted masks and lenses on the Amazing 2 Suit, blurry Classic Suit webbing and lighting issues affecting Peter’s Hellfire Gala outfit.
The Fresh Start situation is different because the criticism began almost immediately after the costume’s July 28 release. Insomniac responded with update 1.005.001 on August 7, leaving only ten days between the suit becoming playable and the revised version going live.
The patch also gives the Fresh Start suit a cleaner separation from the New Red and Blue Suit already included in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. Both costumes draw from Tom Holland’s more traditional Spider-Man designs, but Fresh Start is specifically based on the costume used in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
Insomniac has not said that update 1.005.001 will be Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’s final patch. Claims that support has now definitively ended would therefore be speculative.
The studio has also not formally announced Marvel’s Spider-Man 3, so the ending of Spider-Man 2 and previous leaked material should not be treated as confirmation of a sequel.
For now, update 1.005.001 has a much narrower purpose. Insomniac has responded to criticism surrounding one of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’s newest suits and adjusted the Fresh Start design less than two weeks after its debut.
