A new Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse poster has sparked speculation that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 could introduce Web Wings as another way to travel around New York.
The artwork includes Insomniac Games’ version of Peter Parker among the many Spider-People and appears to show webbing extending between his arms and torso. That detail has led players to wonder whether it could reflect an unrevealed ability from the upcoming PS5 sequel.

There is already a connection between Web Wings and Insomniac’s version of Peter.
One of the backpack collectibles in Marvel’s Spider-Man contains an old pair of webbed wings that Peter previously designed. His accompanying recording explains that they looked good but never worked properly, establishing that this version of the character has already experimented with using them.
That makes their appearance on the Across the Spider-Verse artwork more interesting than an entirely new costume detail. Peter could conceivably have revisited the design between games and developed the wings into a functional traversal tool.
It remains only a possibility, however.
The poster promotes Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse rather than Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, and neither Insomniac Games nor PlayStation has announced Web Wings as a feature of the sequel.
Insomniac did leave room for new abilities when it revealed Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 in 2021. The studio said its initial footage offered only a glimpse of the new abilities and suits Peter Parker and Miles Morales would acquire, without detailing how traversal would change.
A functional version of Peter’s abandoned Web Wings would fit within that promise, particularly if they could supplement web-swinging when crossing areas where tall buildings are less readily available.
For now, though, the Across the Spider-Verse poster should be treated as an intriguing visual clue rather than confirmation that gliding will be part of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.
Later update: Insomniac officially confirmed Web Wings on May 24, 2023, just two weeks after this article was published.
The first Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 gameplay reveal showed both Peter Parker and Miles Morales deploying Web Wings to glide through Marvel’s New York alongside the traditional web-swinging system.
Insomniac also confirmed that the expanded playable world includes Queens, where lower buildings and wider spaces make the additional traversal option particularly useful.
Web Wings ultimately became a full traversal system rather than a cosmetic suit feature. Players can alternate between swinging and gliding, while wind tunnels positioned around the city provide additional speed and altitude.
The Across the Spider-Verse artwork therefore preceded the official gameplay reveal by around two weeks and accurately foreshadowed a major new traversal mechanic, even though the poster itself was not confirmation at the time.
