Sharp-eyed devotees of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 have spotted a possible gameplay hint concealed within the latest poster for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. Insomniac officially unveiled the forthcoming sequel to its highly praised superhero series in 2021 through an enthralling teaser trailer.

In the brief clip, Peter Parker and Miles Morales join forces in New York City to battle criminals. Ultimately encountering the fearsome Venom while Kraven the Hunter expresses his longing for a “real challenge.”

Since that time, there has been scarce official information about Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. Voice actors such as Yuri Lowenthal and Tony Todd have divulged occasional snippets regarding the game’s development progress. Unverified sources have leaked numerous plot details.

Insomniac, however, has remained tight-lipped about the sequel, prompting keen fans to comb through various media for any crumbs of fresh intel, be it the free prequel comic or the forthcoming Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse animated film.

The sequel’s version of Peter Parker is among the numerous alternate Spider-Men making cameo appearances in Across the Spider-Verse. A recent film poster has sparked theories among players about a potential new ability for the character in the upcoming game. Twitter user Shade highlighted that the PlayStation friendly neighbourhood hero is depicted with webbing beneath his arms on the poster – a feature affectionately known as “web wings” by fans.

The History of Spider-Man’s Web Wings in Media

These web-like wings featured in the early comic book appearances and have re-emerged sporadically in diverse media. In the live-action MCU films, Peter employs them as a retractable glider, thanks to Tony Stark’s ingenuity, and this title alludes to their use in the Insomniac universe.

However, Peter discards the concept before the game’s storyline unfolds, believing it to be a failure. Nevertheless, this hasn’t deterred some players from incorporating them into his Classic suit through mods.

In the upcoming title, Peter may reconsider the idea of web wings, possibly enabling gamers to glide across New York City in a manner akin to Batman in the Batman: Arkham series.

Naturally, this remains pure conjecture from the fanbase for now, but the prospect of integrating gliding with Insomniac’s already superb web-swinging mechanics is an alluring concept that could make the game even more impressive than its predecessors when it launches on PlayStation 5 later this year.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is set for release in 2023 on PS5.
