Sony revealed a Spider-Man 2 themed PlayStation 5 and DualSense controller at the 2023 San Diego Comic Con, alongside the much-anticipated trailer. Pre-orders for the bundle start on July 28th, with the game launching on October 20th.

In a whirlwind of anticipation, Sony has unveiled a limited-edition PlayStation 5 and DualSense controller, both themed after Insomniac’s Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. The announcement was made at the 2023 San Diego Comic Con, a much-anticipated event in the comic book world that took place from July 20-23.
The Spider-Man 2 Presentation – A Highlight of Comic Con
The Spider-Man 2 presentation was a highlight of the convention, featuring a panel of developers from Insomniac Games and some of the project’s actors. The panel discussion revealed intriguing details about the upcoming action-adventure game, including plot and character insights. It was also shared that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will transport players to Aunt May’s house in Queens, New York, among other iconic city locations.
The Limited-Edition Bundle Trailer
Following the panel, a Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 limited-edition PS5 bundle was announced. A quick 38 second trailer was uploaded to the official PlayStation YouTube channel. The bundle’s design features black symbiote tendrils spreading across the Spider-Man red colour and spider logo. A trailer was dropped by PlayStation just a few hours ago and can be viewed above. The bundle includes:
- Themed console covers
- DualSense wireless controller
- A code for a digital standard copy of the game
- Pre-order bonuses
For those who already own a PS5, the accessories will also be available for individual purchase. Exclusively, pre-orders for the Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 bundle will commence on July 28th, while the separate items are scheduled for launch on September 1st.

Cover & Controller Design Inspiration
The design of the covers and controller was a collaborative effort with Insomniac Games. Jacinda Chew, the studio’s senior art director, shared that the design was inspired by the in-game symbiote taking over the console and controller, with glimpses of the underlying red visible beneath the tendrils.
Jacinda Chew, Senior Art Director, Insomniac Games said:
“The design was inspired by the in-game symbiote that’s taking over the console and controller, but you can still see some of the underlying red under the tendrils.”
A New Era for Themed PS5 Bundles

The PlayStation 5, launched in November 2020, has seen a scarcity of limited-edition versions in the years following its release. However, this drought seems to be ending, with Sony releasing themed face plates and controllers more regularly. The Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 bundle will be the first themed PS5 released since the console’s launch. Unfortunately if you do acquire this bundle then you won’t be playing the demo as the game goes straight to release without one.
