Bandai Namco has confirmed Hwoarang for Tekken 8, bringing the Taekwondo specialist back with a new gameplay trailer focused on his updated design and kick-heavy fighting style.
The trailer opens with Hwoarang arriving on a motorcycle before showing him in battle against Jin Kazama. His familiar stance-switching approach returns, with rapid combinations built around high, mid and low kicks.
Hwoarang also makes use of Tekken 8’s new Heat system during the footage, adding more aggressive pressure and follow-up options to a moveset that has long revolved around sustained kicking attacks.
His visual design has also changed for Tekken 8. Hwoarang now wears a more streamlined combat outfit and has longer hair tied back, giving him a noticeably different appearance from his Tekken 7 incarnation.
The reveal continues Bandai Namco’s steady rollout of returning fighters. Earlier character trailers have already confirmed Lili’s return to Tekken 8, while Jun Kazama’s gameplay trailer provided a closer look at her comeback and Kazama-style fighting techniques.
Hwoarang first joined the series in Tekken 3 and has remained closely tied to Jin Kazama through their long-running rivalry. Bandai Namco’s official character background says Hwoarang has continued training with the goal of settling that rivalry once and for all.
The roster continued expanding after Hwoarang’s reveal, with Bryan Fury later confirmed for Tekken 8 through another gameplay trailer.
