Dead by Daylight Surprises Fans with Crossover Skin of Obscure 2010 Horror Game Naughty Bear.
The enduringly popular asymmetric horror game Dead by Daylight is teaming up with an unexpected and largely forgotten property – Naughty Bear, a cartoonish yet violent 2010 title. Naughty Bear is being added as a playable skin for existing Dead by Daylight killer The Trapper, complete with his own grisly mori kill animation.
Released in 2010, Naughty Bear was a divisive game centering on the antics of a psychopathic teddy bear. Despite middling reviews, it developed a cult following. Over a decade later, Dead by Daylight plans to bring the murderous mascot to its roster of iconic horror icons as a skin for The Trapper.
First Skin to Have Fully Customized Mori Kill Animation
Preview footage showcases Naughty Bear brutalising a survivor in signature fashion by splitting their head with a cleaver. The character will also feature unique voiceover from Naughty Bear’s original narrator. This makes it the first skin in Dead by Daylight’s history to include both a bespoke mori animation and dedicated dialogue.
The inclusion of this unexpected, largely forgotten character has evoked nostalgia among fans of the obscure indie title. Naughty Bear is a particularly interesting choice because the original 2010 game was developed by Behaviour themselves years before Dead by Daylight. Despite the title’s poor critical reception, it built a cult following, and this crossover marks the first time Behaviour has revisited its own older IP inside DBD.
It also hints at the studio’s willingness to diversify beyond licensed horror icons by resurrecting long-dormant properties under their control, though lucrative franchises like Five Nights at Freddy’s remain requested.
Having added mega-franchise villains from Alien, Halloween, Stranger Things and more, the survival horror game can now highlight a lesser-known but passionately loved horror antihero. The depth of customisation also signals new willingness to go beyond skin-deep collaborations.
A patch was released around 3 weeks ago which we reported on, which nerfed camping around the map to stop boring matches. The update was welcomed by fans of the series and players who bank on camping in corners to see out a match will have to find alternate ways to win now.
Naughty Bear will be available this Halloween during the Haunted by Daylight 2023 event, letting fans revisit the twisted teddy’s brutality. While an unconventional choice, the crossover introduces players to a unique cult classic and brings satisfying customisation options. Once again, the survival horror title finds frights in unexpected places.
