Key Highlights:

  • The Batman (2022) movie suit added as free DLC skin in Arkham Knight
  • Launches December 1st exclusively on Switch version at first
  • Comes to PS4, Xbox One, and PC versions starting December 15th
  • Extremely film-accurate model and textures based on movie costume
  • Surprise addition 8 years after Arkham Knight originally released

In a surprise move, developer Rocksteady Studios is bringing Robert Pattinson’s big-screen Batsuit from 2022 film The Batman to 2015’s Batman: Arkham Knight courtesy of a free DLC skin. Officially confirmed by Warner Bros. following recent rumours, the movie-inspired costume arrives on Nintendo Switch as console exclusive DLC at launch, before hitting other platforms soon after.

The Batman Suit Spreads Its Wings

As revealed in an Arkham Trilogy trailer, The Batman skin drops December 1st exclusively within the Nintendo Switch package containing enhanced editions of Arkham Asylum, City, and Knight. WB Games added that it will then roll out across Arkham Knight on PS4, Xbox One, and PC beginning December 15th. A brand new more in-depth trailer that features gameplay clips can be viewed above

The Epic Games Store seemingly jumped the gun and briefly offered the DLC prematurely last month. But now console and PC players can equip the cinematic Batsuit for their own adventures in Gotham City. The surprisingly deep cut cosmetic change comes eight years removed from Arkham Knight’s 2015 release.

Borrowed Right From The Silver Screen

Comparisons show Rocksteady adapted the costume directly as seen in Matt Reeves’ acclaimed detective noir-inspired film. Every intricate detail – from armor paneling, ‘spats’ boots, wore textures, battle damage, and utility belt – mirrors Pattinson’s hero attire. The only catch is the build doesn’t totally match Batman’s usual hulking comic book proportions.

Still, slipping on the suit transports gamers directly into the movie’s grounded, rain-soaked setting. Running missions donning Pattinson’s civilization while hearing Kevin Conroy’s iconic gravelly voiceover seems an odd clash, but a welcome one for fans.

Another welcome film addition

The Batman skin bolsters an already stacked lineup of movie-themed alternate looks in Arkham Knight. Alongside the classic Animated Series outfit, players can suit up as Christian Bale’s Dark Knight iteration or Ben Affleck’s aged iteration from Batman v Superman.

Now Pattinson joins the roster, offering a unique aesthetic twist fitting Reeves’ fresh grounded universe. While eight years removed from launch is an odd timing, the new costume gives existing Arkham diehards reason to redownload the acclaimed series closer.

But What About The Other Two Games?

The wording of WB’s announcements leaves ambiguity around whether The Batman suit remains a Switch exclusive across the entire 3-game Arkham Trilogy or not. Logically, adding the skin to Asylum and City as well would make sense.

But by specifically calling out the latest entry in relation to the December 15th cross-platform release, makes it a puzzling choice.

No further details are confirmed regarding the DLC’s availability within earlier Arkham chapters. Some official clarification by WB Games would help ease confusion amongst returning bat-fans.

Pattinson Over Affleck?

Irrespective of locked platforms, The Batman cowl’s arrival symbolises developer awareness of Pattinson’s costume making a cultural splash months after the DCEU’s Bat-renaissance seemed cemented by Ben Affleck in Batman v Superman. His own tactical suit already exists in-game, hence the new kid muscling in on his turf 8 years later generates intriguing optics regarding cultural buzz and box office legs.

Does the Arkham series quietly admitting Pattman supremacy over Batfleck’s enduring tenure speak to Matt Reeves winning over even the most devout Snyder Cut truthers? We leave the internet fanboy fisticuffs to message boards and subreddits.

At the end of the day, all bat-men are created equal to inflict righteous bone-cracking justice upon Gotham’s criminal element. Arkham Knight players can alternate between Bale, Affleck, and Pattinson when that mood suits them starting December 15th.
