Tekken 8 Resurrects Iconic Villain: Heihachi Mishima Returns This Autumn
In a stunning reveal at the 2024 Evo tournament in Las Vegas, Tekken 8 producer and director Katsuhiro Harada announced the unexpected return of fan-favourite villain Heihachi Mishima.
The legendary patriarch of the Mishima clan, thought to have perished in Tekken 7, will join the roster as a downloadable fighter this autumn.
The announcement came with a dramatic three-minute trailer that left Iron Fist fans worldwide in awe. You can check out the footage for yourself below:
The video opens with Mishima Zaibatsu warrior monks being dispatched by a mysterious figure in a white tiger mask. As the trailer progresses, it reveals familiar faces like Eddy Gordo and Lidia Sobieska, before culminating in a fiery scene at the volcano where Heihachi supposedly met his end.
In a moment that sent shockwaves through the fighting game community, Heihachi emerges from the flames, his iconic hairstyle and moustache intact, laughing menacingly as he shouts his name.
Heihachi’s return is particularly significant given his deep connections to the fighting series lore. As one of the main antagonists since the franchise’s inception, Heihachi has played a pivotal role in the ongoing feud between the Kazama and Mishima families.
His presence has been felt even in Tekken 8’s current story mode through flashbacks, underscoring his importance to the overarching narrative.
New Chapter: “The Dark Awakens” Expands Tekken 8 Lore
Alongside Heihachi’s reveal, Harada announced a new story chapter called The Dark Awakens.
This free addition to Tekken 8 promises to delve deeper into the complex family dynamics that have driven the series’ plot for decades.
The chapter will be available to all players, offering both newcomers and longtime fans a chance to explore the rich backstory of the Tekken universe.
Heihachi will be the third DLC character added to Tekken 8 since its release earlier this year.

He follows Eddy Gordo, the capoeira master who joined the roster in April, and Lidia Sobieska, the Polish president character set to debut later this week.
Lidia’s arrival on July 25th (with early access starting July 22nd) will coincide with the release of a new stage and a photo mode, all part of the game’s 1.06 update.
Tekken World Tour Finals in Tokyo
The fighting game community’s excitement doesn’t stop with these character additions. Harada also used the Evo stage to announce that the 2024 Tekken World Tour Finals will take place in Tokyo, Japan this December.
This event promises to be a thrilling conclusion to what’s shaping up to be an action-packed year for the fanbase.
The title seems poised to maintain its momentum throughout 2024. The return of Heihachi, coupled with the new story content and ongoing character releases, demonstrates Bandai Namco’s commitment to supporting the game and keeping its playerbase engaged.
For now, fans will have to wait until autumn to get their hands on Heihachi and experience how the resurrected character fits into the current roster.
