Gamescom 2024: The Stage for a Final Fantasy 16 PC Port Announcement?

Gamescom, a major gaming convention held in Germany, is known for its online showcase called Gamescom’s Opening Night Live, which will be held on August 20th 2024.

This event has historically been a platform for announcing new games and revealing significant updates to existing titles. Many fans are speculating that the release date for Final Fantasy 16’s PC port could be unveiled during this showcase.

The likelihood of a PC port announcement is further supported by several factors. Firstly, a PC version of FF16 has been confirmed for quite some time.

Additionally, a recent Nvidia driver update hinted at the game’s imminent arrival on PC. Moreover, Sony’s PS5 exclusivity agreement with Square Enix concluded in June 2024, paving the way for the ability to branch out to other platforms.

FFXVI Xbox Series X/S Port: A Possibility on the Horizon

In addition to the PC port, there have been rumblings about Final Fantasy XVI potentially making its way to the Xbox Series X/S.

While Square Enix has not officially confirmed this, the game’s producer, Naoki Yoshida, recently hinted at the possibility of FF XVI being released on other platforms.

Reliable leaker NateDrake has also claimed that it is is coming to Xbox, stating:

“It’s going to happen. Just waiting for Square to announce it.”

The leaker was speaking in an exclusive with ResetEra (via XboxEra) when he dropped the stunning revelation.

This claim aligns with Square Enix’s recently revealed plans to pursue multiplatform strategies, moving away from their previous focus on PS5 exclusivity.

Square Enix’s decision to explore multiplatform releases for their titles, including Final Fantasy 16, may be influenced by recent financial reports. Despite receiving positive reviews from critics, FF16 and the recent Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth did not achieve the same level of sales as multiplatform titles like FF15. Although XVI did smash PS5 sales in Japan, it could not perform as well in places like the UK and US.

By expanding to other platforms, the publisher aims to reach a wider audience and potentially boost their financial performance. As Gamescom 2024 approaches, fans are eagerly anticipating any news regarding Final Fantasy 16’s PC and Xbox ports. The event could provide clarity on the release date for the PC version and shed light on the rumoured Xbox Series X/S port.

With the game’s PS5 exclusivity period now over, the stage is literally set for Square Enix to unveil their plans for bringing Final Fantasy 16 to a broader player base.
