Key Highlights:
- The Flashlight is found near a purple GPS locator by the snowy mountain.
- Players must free a suspended body to retrieve it.
- Batteries are essential to keep the Flashlight functional for cave exploration.
In Sons of the Forest, darkness hides not just the landscape, but the many dangers lurking within it. While players start with a plasma lighter and can craft torches, the Flashlight stands out as the most reliable light source.
Quick Links:
It dramatically improves visibility in night exploration and inside caves, offering crucial advantages against cannibals and mutants. Additionally, using the Flashlight frees up the player’s weapon arm, allowing better defence in dangerous areas.
Where to Find the Flashlight in SOTF
To secure the Flashlight, players must navigate towards a purple exclamation mark on the GPS Tracker, located closest to the snowy mountainous region.
The GPS will start beeping, increasing in frequency as players move closer to the target.
On reaching the cliffside marked by the locator, players will encounter a moss-covered rock with a body suspended from it. The Flashlight, along with a GPS locator and some supplies like Energy Bars, Rope, and a Vodka Bottle, is found with the body. Players can retrieve the body by:
- Shooting or throwing a small rock to break the rope from below, or
- Climbing to the top and cutting the rope with an axe.
Once the body falls, the Flashlight can be picked up and added directly to the inventory, fully charged and ready for immediate use.
How to Replace Flashlight Batteries in SOTF
While the Flashlight is powerful, it is not infinite. Its power gauge, visible on the side, glows green when charged and blinks red when nearing depletion.
Batteries are commonly found across the island, especially in yellow-lidded crates, grey supply cases, abandoned campsites, and around crash sites.
When battery replacement becomes necessary:
- Open the inventory (“I” key), left-click the Flashlight to add it to the crafting mat.
- Left-click on a Battery pack, then combine both items using the Gear icon.
A refreshed Flashlight ensures players are always ready to brave the dark corridors of caves and the shadowy forests of the island.
Pro Tip: You can attach the Flashlight to weapons like the handgun, making it even more valuable for combat in dark areas.
While retrieving the Flashlight, make sure to also collect the GPS locator attached to the body. This locator will respawn every time a save file is reloaded, offering an opportunity to collect additional locators for strategic tracking.
