Key Highlights:
- Stamina is as vital as Health. Low stamina slows movement, weakens attacks, and gets you killed.
- Regain it with Energy Drinks, Energy Mix (Chicory + Arrowleaf), sleep, and clean water.
- Manage the rest meter to restore maximum stamina and avoid long-term fatigue.
The stamina bar in Sons of The Forest drains with every sprint, swing, and block. As you work, a separate rest meter quietly lowers your maximum stamina, so you take more breaks and breathe heavier.
Keep an eye on hunger and thirst because both accelerate stamina loss. When I plan a big build or a long cave run, I treat stamina like ammo and top it up before I move. The fastest reset is an Energy Drink, which fills the stamina bar and restores a large chunk of the rest meter. They are limited though, so I save them for fights and emergency retreats.
For daily play, I rotate three tools. First, the Energy Mix crafted from 1× Chicory and 1× Arrowleaf. It gives a smaller boost than a can but it is renewable if you keep seeds planted.
Second, sleep at a shelter, tent, or bed to refill both stamina and rest, noting that sleep consumes food and water and is blocked if cannibals are close. My own testing shows that sleeping indoors on a proper bed restores around 95% of your Rest meter when you’re using gear focused on Comfort, like the Pajamas, compared to roughly 60–75% recovery in standard clothing such as the Tactical Jacket.
Third, clean water. Several quick drinks will refill the bar without burning your consumables. In 1.0 I avoid murky sources to prevent sickness, so I use a flask or a Rain Catcher at base.
I stack prevention so I do not have to chug cans later. Build near reliable water and drink before you run. Eat cooked or dried food so your stamina ticks up during travel.
If the cold icon appears, your stamina drains faster; a Winter Jacket helps, and torches give a little heat in a pinch. In caves and boss rooms I pause in the inventory to eat, drink, and swap gear safely, then resume at full bars. Whilst the game is in the inventory menu, the game acts as if it is paused, so there’s no danger of being attacked whilst regaining stamina.
During long sessions I set small goals: chop ten logs, sip water, craft an Energy Mix, repeat. It keeps the rest meter high so the max stamina ceiling does not collapse mid-fight. If I am completely dry on supplies, one solid sleep often clears light fatigue and lets me finish the job.
