Key Highlights:

  • Capcom is reportedly preparing to officially unveil Resident Evil 9.
  • A hidden visual nod to “IX” appears in a recent Capcom video.
  • Director of Resident Evil 7 returns for this upcoming entry.

Capcom appears to be quietly ramping up promotion for Resident Evil 9, with new insider reports and a suspiciously crafted visual cue reigniting fan speculation.

With nearly four years since the release of Resident Evil Village, the timing is ripe for the next mainline entry to surface, especially with increasing talk of a PlayStation Showcase looming.

Long-Awaited Reveal May Be Imminent

A recent update from AestheticGamer, a name closely linked to Resident Evil leaks, suggests that Resident Evil 9 will be revealed in the “not-so-distant future.” While the phrase leaves room for interpretation, the insider’s history with Resident Evil news lends some weight to the claim.

Capcom, known for its calculated marketing, is no stranger to synchronising big reveals with Sony events.

If the rumoured PlayStation Showcase happens in the coming weeks, Resident Evil 9 may be a key feature, following the same pattern used for previous game unveilings like Village and RE4 Remake.

IX Marks the Spot

Fuel was added to the fire when Capcom released a video celebrating the success of Resident Evil 4 Remake.

Toward the end of the video, fans noticed subtle Roman numerals “IX” worked into signage within the village setting. The tribute message thanked fans for their support, but the design of the text, paired with its strategic placement, suggests a deliberate teaser for Resident Evil 9.

This form of hidden symbolism isn’t new to the franchise. RE Village famously embedded the Roman numeral “VIII” into its logo, blending title design with numerical continuity. It appears Capcom may be following the same visual motif to build anticipation without making a formal announcement.

Development Details and Direction

Last year, Capcom casually confirmed that the next entry in the series was underway. Koshi Nakanishi, director of Resident Evil 7, is returning to lead the project.

His involvement is a strong signal that RE9 may return to the atmospheric horror tone that redefined the franchise with 7.

In an earlier interview, Nakanishi mentioned the difficulty of following up RE7 but expressed confidence that the team had found a compelling new direction.

While specifics are tightly under wraps, rumours from previously mentioned leaker AestheticGamer AKA Dusk Golem suggest the next title could incorporate open-world elements – potentially making it the most expansive Resident Evil yet.

Resident Evil 0 Remake Also in Development

In parallel, Capcom is reportedly working on a remake of Resident Evil 0, marking the next modernisation effort following the success of RE4 Remake.

It’s not all good news though, we reported last year that although a RE Zero Remake is in development, it will not have the same budget or push as RE4 did.

That said, this dual-track development speaks to Capcom’s commitment to both innovation and legacy, with the potential to deliver new experiences while preserving the series’ history for modern audiences.

As of now, Capcom has not issued any formal statements regarding Resident Evil 9 or its supposed teaser.

Given the publisher’s past strategies, silence may be intentional to allow speculation to build until the moment is right.

If a major PlayStation event is indeed on the horizon, fans won’t have to wait long for clarity.

Until then, the signs literal and metaphorical point toward a reveal that is no longer a matter of if, but when.
