Resident Evil 4 Remake 8M Sales Milestone

Key Highlights:

  • Resident Evil 4 surpassed 8 million worldwide sales in October 2024.
  • The remake added another million sales around seven months after reaching the 7 million milestone.
  • Capcom later reported more than 10 million sales, with the official total reaching 16.04 million by June 2026.

Resident Evil 4 Remake surpassed 8 million copies sold worldwide around 19 months after its March 2023 release.

Capcom marked the milestone on 16 October 2024 with commemorative artwork featuring Leon S. Kennedy and Ashley Graham.

The remake had previously reached the 7 million sales milestone in March 2024, meaning another million copies were sold in roughly seven months.

Resident Evil 4 launched for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC before later expanding to Mac, iPhone and iPad.

Post-launch support also added The Mercenaries, Separate Ways and a free PlayStation VR2 mode, while Resident Evil 4 Gold Edition bundled the base game with its major paid content in February 2024.

At the time of the eight-million announcement, the remake still sat below several of the franchise’s biggest sellers.

The developer stated:

“To you, the 8 million-plus agents, thank you from the bottom of our hearts,”.

Capcom’s sales figures at the time placed Resident Evil 5 at 14.8 million units, Resident Evil 2 Remake at 14.2 million, Resident Evil 7 at 14 million and the original Resident Evil 4 at approximately 13 million.

Resident Evil 4 Remake’s 8 million sales therefore left it several million units behind the franchise leaders in October 2024.

The comparison is a snapshot of the franchise at that point rather than a current ranking. Resident Evil 4 Remake continued selling strongly after October 2024 and later overtook several titles shown in the chart.

Capcom’s later figures showed that the eight-million milestone was still relatively early in the remake’s commercial life.

The company reported that Resident Evil 4 surpassed 10 million units worldwide within approximately two years, making it the fastest Resident Evil game to reach that figure.

By 30 June 2026, Capcom’s official lifetime total had climbed to 16.04 million units. GLN’s later analysis found that Resident Evil 4 had become the best-selling remake of the current console generation.

The October 2024 milestone therefore sits midway through a much longer sales run rather than representing the remake’s commercial peak.
