During today’s Nintendo Direct, Capcom confirmed three Resident Evil remakes are coming to Nintendo Switch 2 on October 16, 2026: Resident Evil 2 Deluxe Edition, Resident Evil 3 and Resident Evil 4 Gold Edition.
All three launch digitally on the same day, with pre-orders opening alongside the announcement. Nintendo is also running an early-adopter discount through November 7, meaning players do not have to pre-order to receive the introductory pricing. Physical versions will follow considerably later on January 29, 2027.
Capcom has released a dedicated Switch 2 announcement trailer showing Leon, Claire, Jill and Nemesis alongside footage from Resident Evil 4 Remake and its Separate Ways expansion.
These are a much bigger upgrade over the original Switch releases
The most important platform detail is that Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 are being released as dedicated Nintendo Switch 2 versions rather than relying on the Cloud Versions available on the original Switch.
Resident Evil 2 reached Switch through cloud streaming in November 2022, followed by Resident Evil 3 later that month. Resident Evil 4 Remake never received a Switch version at all, making October 16 its first appearance on Nintendo hardware.
That distinction matters because cloud versions depend on a constant internet connection and remote server performance. The new releases are listed as conventional Nintendo Switch 2 games through Nintendo’s storefront, with handheld, tabletop and TV modes supported. Nintendo also lists HDR on compatible displays, surround sound and Save Data Cloud support.
I think the move away from cloud streaming is the biggest practical improvement here. Resident Evil 2 and 3 were technically available to Switch owners before, but a proper Switch 2 release is much closer to the portable Resident Evil experience players actually wanted.
Capcom has not yet published specific Switch 2 resolution or frame-rate targets for any of the three games. Nintendo’s current listings also do not confirm gyro aiming, Joy-Con 2 mouse controls or other Switch 2-specific input features, so those should remain open questions rather than assumptions.
What each Switch 2 edition includes
Capcom is not bringing the bare minimum versions across either.
Resident Evil 2 Deluxe Edition includes the full remake plus seven additional Leon and Claire costumes, three Samurai Edge deluxe weapons and the Original Version soundtrack swap. The costumes include Leon’s Arklay Sheriff, Noir and 1998 appearances alongside Claire’s Military, Noir, Elza Walker and 1998 outfits.
Resident Evil 3 is the simpler package. Nintendo currently lists the main game, Jill’s Classic costume and Carlos’ Classic Hair cosmetic.
One notable omission from that listing is Resident Evil Resistance. The asymmetrical multiplayer game was bundled with Resident Evil 3 on PlayStation and Xbox, but Nintendo’s current Switch 2 product page does not list it among the included content. That does not necessarily prove Resistance will never be available on Switch 2, but it is absent from the announced package at the time of writing.
Resident Evil 4 Gold Edition is comfortably the largest of the three packages.
It includes the main Resident Evil 4 Remake campaign, Ada Wong’s Separate Ways story expansion and The Mercenaries, alongside the Extra DLC Pack. That adds Leon and Ashley’s Casual and Romantic outfits, Hero and Villain Leon costumes and filters, the Sentinel Nine and Skull Shaker weapons, an expanded treasure map, alternative attaché cases, charms and the original soundtrack swap.
That makes the Switch 2 version particularly substantial because Separate Ways is a full additional campaign rather than a cosmetic add-on.
The commercial case for another Resident Evil 4 platform is also fairly obvious. Capcom’s latest official figures put Resident Evil 2 at 19.7 million copies, Resident Evil 3 at 14.5 million and Resident Evil 4 Remake at 16 million as of June 30, 2026. Combined, the three remakes have sold roughly 50.2 million copies before the Switch 2 versions even arrive.
Resident Evil 4 has been particularly successful. Earlier this summer, Resident Evil 4 Remake became the best-selling remake of the current console generation, with Capcom’s more precise June figure sitting at 16.04 million units.
UK prices are already discounted
The current UK pricing makes the three-game launch considerably cheaper than buying all of them at standard price.

The introductory discounts therefore save £26.25 across the complete trio. Nintendo says its early-adopter promotion remains available through November 7, more than three weeks after the October 16 launch.
That extended window is useful because players can wait for technical impressions of the Switch 2 versions before committing and still qualify for the reduced prices.
US pricing follows a similar structure. Nintendo currently lists Resident Evil 2 Deluxe Edition at $29.99 instead of $39.99 and Resident Evil 3 at $19.79 instead of $29.99 during the promotion.
Physical editions arrive in January
Collectors will have to wait longer.
Capcom says physical editions of Resident Evil 2 Deluxe Edition, Resident Evil 3 and Resident Evil 4 Gold Edition will release on January 29, 2027, more than three months after the digital versions.
What Capcom has not clarified yet is the physical format.
There is currently no official confirmation stating whether the January releases will use traditional cartridges containing the complete games, Switch 2 Game-Key Cards requiring downloads, or another physical configuration. That distinction is worth waiting for before describing them as fully on-cart editions.
The October releases also fill another major gap in Capcom’s Switch 2 Resident Evil catalogue.
Resident Evil Requiem already runs natively on Nintendo’s current hardware and continues receiving the same updates as PS5, Xbox Series and PC, including Update 1.3.1 earlier this year.
Capcom is also bringing Resident Evil Veronica to Switch 2 in 2027 alongside PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, extending the company’s modern remake programme beyond Resident Evil 4.
Nintendo says the addition of Resident Evil 2, 3 and 4 means the wider mainline series will be playable across Switch 2 once those existing and upcoming releases are taken into account.
For Switch 2 owners, October 16 therefore does more than add three older games to another storefront. It finally gives Nintendo players dedicated versions of Capcom’s modern Raccoon City remakes and brings Resident Evil 4 Remake to a Nintendo system for the first time.
