Key Highlights:
- Resident Evil Requiem confirmed for Nintendo Switch 2 with a February 27, 2026 release date.
- Unlike past cloud experiments, RE Requiem, Resident Evil 7, and Resident Evil Village will run natively on Switch 2 hardware.
- Trailer footage shows Requiem’s first- and third-person presentation working seamlessly on the handheld console.
Capcom used the September Nintendo Direct to confirm that Resident Evil Requiem will release day-and-date on Nintendo Switch 2, alongside PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
This is the ninth mainline entry in the series and the first time a brand-new Resident Evil has launched natively on Nintendo hardware in years.
Importantly, this isn’t another cloud-streamed compromise. RE Requiem, along with Resident Evil 7: Biohazard and Resident Evil Village, will be full-fat Switch 2 versions, taking advantage of the system’s upgraded hardware.
Seeing RE Requiem running natively on Switch 2 during the showcase was a big moment. The trailer highlighted both its first-person gameplay and third-person cinematics, all while maintaining the chilling aesthetic fans expect.
Playing as Grace Ashcroft, players will navigate the ruined streets of Raccoon City, face grotesque new creatures, and piece together the secrets surrounding the return of the Umbrella Corporation.
In my opinion, this is a huge win for Nintendo fans. In the past, we’ve only seen compromised versions of these games, like the old cloud-based Resident Evil 7 release in Japan, which barely gained traction.
Having Requiem and the RE Engine running directly on Switch 2 should set a new bar for what third-party AAA survival horror can achieve on handheld hardware. It also positions Capcom to mark the 30th anniversary of Resident Evil in 2026 with a lineup that feels both nostalgic and forward-looking.
With its simultaneous launch across all major platforms, Resident Evil Requiem looks set to be one of the defining horror experiences of next year, and the Switch 2 port could be the most surprising part of the package.
