Sons of the Forest Hang Glider Location and Flight Guide

A scenic view from a hang glider in "Sons of the Forest," featuring lush forests below and a guide title overlay.

Key Highlights:

  • Find the Hang Glider on a snow ridge campsite near the central mountain.
  • Master dive-and-climb flight to stay airborne across long distances.
  • Unlock the Glider Launcher blueprint for even higher jumps and extended travel.

The Hang Glider is the quickest way to cross Sons of the Forest once you’re above the treeline. Players can pick it up on a snow-covered ridge near an abandoned campsite as they climb toward the central mountain.

There are no progression locks here, so you can secure it on day one if you make the trek. Interact to strap in, then leap from a proper height to engage flight. It doesn’t fold and it can’t go in your inventory, so treat it like a carryable that you place with G when you need your hands free.

Controls are simple, but the craft rewards finesse. The glider uses momentum and altitude. Glide left or right with movement keys, pitch up or down by tilting your nose. The key is reading the on-frame indicators: you’ll see two circles on the frame, an open ring for your centre point and a filled ring for your current pitch. That filled ring has a small line through it which helps you judge angle at a glance.

Here’s the technique I use to chain long flights without touching down:

  • Start with a shallow dive until you hear the strong wind rush. That sound means you’re banking speed.
  • Before you get too low, pull up to a climb at roughly 45 degrees. Use the line through the filled circle as a guide and lift it near the top of the ball.
  • Repeat this dive then climb rhythm. Each cycle trades speed for height, letting you maintain or gain altitude over distance.

How do you get the glider out of the water in Sons of the Forest?

If your Hang Glider ends up stuck in water, you won’t be able to pick it back up directly. The simplest fix is to use the developer console. Type cheatstick in-game, press F1 to open the console, then enter commands like superjump to hop out, or gotocoords to teleport to a safe location. This reliably frees both you and the glider, saving you from losing it to a bug.

A few practical tips from testing:

  • The glider has a height limit. You won’t climb over the snowy peak, but you can orbit the island by chaining dives and climbs.
  • Use the tree line as a reference. If the canopy sinks below you during the climb, you’re gaining. If it rises, your angle is too steep or you didn’t build enough speed.
  • Don’t panic if you flatten out. Nudge into a gentle dive to rebuild speed, listen for the wind, then climb again.
  • Pick clear jump points like ridge lips and cliff edges. The glider won’t trigger from a small hop.
  • Mind where you drop it with G. Because it doesn’t fold, losing it down a slope or into thick brush wastes time you could be flying.

Players can also track down a Glider Launcher to boost themselves high into the air. To build one, you first need to locate its blueprint. It’s tucked away at the far end of a cave marked by an orange symbol on the GPS map, with a GPS locator conveniently placed at the cave entrance. Once collected, you can place and construct the launcher.

Be careful, though: the launcher will catapult you skyward whether you’re wearing the Hang Glider or not. The safest approach is to bind the glider to a hotkey beforehand, so you can instantly switch if you get launched unprepared. Without that quick swap, there’s no way to equip the glider midair.

All Hang Glider Locations in Sons of the Forest

While one Hang Glider is enough to cover the island, there are actually 12 gliders scattered across Sons of the Forest. Most are perched on cliffs, hills, or mountaintops so you can launch straight away after picking them up. Check the map below to see every known spawn location.

This isn’t just about travel. With discipline on pitch and momentum, you can scout caves, mark camps, and ferry between bases without burning daylight. Stick to the 45 degree rhythm, trust the wind audio cue, and you’ll cover the island faster than any zipline network.
