A major Fallout game has quietly gone free and players are jumping on it fast

A skull-faced cowboy in a hat aims a revolver against a fiery red sky. Mutants and a boar feature below. Text reads "100% FREE." Intense and action-packed.

Key Highlights:

  • Fallout 76 is now free to claim and keep through Prime Gaming until 17 December.
  • The offer requires an active Amazon Prime membership and grants a permanent PC copy via Microsoft Store.
  • Fallout New Vegas Ultimate Edition and Fallout 3 GOTY remain free on Luna for a limited time.

Bethesda has made one of its most improved Fallout titles completely free for millions of players, thanks to a new Prime Gaming giveaway. Fallout 76 can now be claimed and kept permanently, offering newcomers a chance to explore West Virginia’s wasteland without paying a penny. It arrives at a good time too, with renewed interest in the series after the success of the Fallout TV show and the 10-year anniversary edition of Fallout 4.

The promotion isn’t a traditional freebie, as you’ll need an active Amazon Prime subscription to redeem it, but in practical terms a huge number of Fallout fans already have Prime because of the TV series. Once claimed, you receive a PC code that activates on the Microsoft Store, and from that point on the game is yours to download and play any time. The offer runs until 17 December, which is also the day Fallout Season 2 launches on Prime Video, so the timing is not accidental.

Prime Gaming has actually been rebranded to now be called Amazon Luna, you can visit the official Luna claim page using the hyperlink to grab your copy.

Fallout 76 had a rough launch back in 2018, but Bethesda has spent years reshaping it. I jam out on it every time there’s a really big promo, but I revisited it last year on PC for an extended duration, and the difference is night and day. Updated questlines, new regions, consistent world events, and a far more welcoming early game make it one of the best redemption arcs Bethesda has produced. If you bounced off it at release, this is the perfect excuse to give it another go.

It reminds me a lot of how players even today, sleep on No Man’s Sky, thinking it’s the same game that ultimately released to a poor reception. Play it today, and you’d think you’re playing one of the best sci-fi games ever created, and you’d be right.

Prime Gaming and Amazon Luna have quietly become a great source of Fallout content. Last month’s additions, Fallout New Vegas Ultimate Edition and Fallout 3 Game of the Year Edition, are still available to claim at the time of writing. For anyone wanting a full run through the modern Fallout catalogue on PC, it is hard to beat what Luna is offering right now.

With Fallout Season 2 on the horizon and Bethesda continuing to update Fallout 76, this free giveaway is an easy recommendation. Even if you only plan to dip in and explore for a few hours, it is well worth redeeming before the deadline.
