The Epic Games Store July 23 free game has been officially confirmed as Foretales, with Epic revealing the narrative-driven card adventure as next week’s free PC giveaway.
Developed by Alkemi and published by Dear Villagers, Foretales originally launched for PC and Nintendo Switch in September 2022. The game follows Volepain, a shoebill stork and thief whose life changes after stealing a magical lyre that grants visions of an approaching catastrophe. Players progress through the story using cards to solve encounters, explore locations and influence the narrative rather than relying purely on combat.
Epic Games Store users will be able to claim Foretales free of charge from 23 July until 30 July. The game normally costs $19.99, making this its first appearance as a free title on the storefront.
Players still have time to claim this week’s official giveaways before they rotate out. Luto, a psychological horror game inspired by P.T., and Echo Generation: Midnight Edition, a turn-based RPG with a nostalgic 1990s visual style, remain free until 23 July.
Unlike many recent promotions, Foretales is currently the only game announced for next week’s giveaway. Since late April, Epic has typically offered at least two free items each week, either through multiple games or a combination of a game with downloadable content or in-game currency. However, Epic has occasionally revealed additional free content closer to launch, so another title could still be announced before the promotion begins.
Foretales received generally positive reviews following its release, earning a Strong recommendation rating on OpenCritic based on critics’ reviews. Reviewers praised its inventive storytelling and the way cards function as tools for conversation, exploration and puzzle solving instead of serving only as attacks. Many encounters also support peaceful solutions, giving players the freedom to complete objectives without resorting to violence.

Away from the weekly PC giveaways, Epic continues to expand its free games programme across mobile devices. The Epic Games Store mobile app now offers rotating free titles on both Android and, within the European Union, iOS. Current mobile giveaways include games such as Super Space Club, Loop Hero, Chuchel, The Forest Quartet, and The WereCleaner, while Android users also have access to additional free titles including Endling: Extinction is Forever, One Hand Clapping, and This Is The Police. New mobile games rotate every Thursday, mirroring the schedule used by the PC storefront.
There is also an additional free game available outside Epic’s regular weekly programme. Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4 is available now at no cost on Xbox Game Pass Premium.
