DCKO has officially been revealed as a new free-to-play mobile fighting game that brings some of DC’s biggest heroes and villains together for 2v2 tag-team battles. Developed by Drop Fake, the upcoming live-service title is scheduled to launch in 2027.
The game was unveiled with an announcement trailer on 20 July. DCKO will combine real-time PvP multiplayer with PvE missions, character customisation, tag-team attacks, combos, and super moves.
Drop Fake describes the real-time PvP system as a first for a DC mobile fighting game. Players will compete directly against other people rather than bots or AI-controlled opponents during PvP matches.
The developer is a team of around 30 industry veterans with previous experience creating mobile fighting games. Several members previously worked on Marvel Contest of Champions, making comparisons between Kabam’s long-running Marvel fighter and DCKO almost inevitable.
DCKO Launch Roster Includes 20 DC Characters
Drop Fake is preparing 20 playable fighters for DCKO’s debut, but the initial lineup will only be the starting point. The studio intends to expand the selection monthly after launch, while the characters already revealed range from DC’s biggest names to heroes and villains rarely represented in fighting games.
Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman are all confirmed. Other playable characters include Robin, Nightwing, Starfire, Zatanna, Green Lantern, Cyborg, Catwoman, Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, Raven, Blue Beetle, Katana, Lex Luthor, Bane, Doomsday, and John Constantine.
Constantine is one of the more interesting additions. The occult detective did not appear as a playable fighter in either Injustice: Gods Among Us or Injustice 2, giving DCKO an opportunity to feature characters beyond those traditionally associated with DC fighting games.
The 2v2 structure should also make character combinations an important part of combat. Players can create duos and use tag-team attacks alongside super-move combinations, while adjustable skill sets provide another way to customise individual characters.
DCKO is currently confirmed only for mobile devices. No PC or console version has been announced.
Monetisation will be one of the biggest questions surrounding the game before its 2027 launch. DCKO’s terms confirm that microtransactions will be present, including virtual currencies such as coins, points, and tokens.
There are also indications that character acquisition could involve a pull-based system. The official promotional material tells players they will be able to “Pull from a roster of iconic DC Legends”, although Drop Fake has not yet fully explained how characters will be obtained or whether the system will function like a traditional mobile gacha mechanic.
DCKO Pre-Registration Is Already Open
Players can now pre-register for DCKO through the game’s official website using a valid email address.
Drop Fake has established several registration milestones that can unlock in-game rewards and currencies for the community. The developer has also indicated that people who register may receive opportunities to play DCKO before its full release.
Early reaction to the announcement has been mixed. Some of the most prominent responses to the reveal trailer have questioned the decision to introduce another mobile DC game, while comparisons with Injustice and Marvel Contest of Champions have appeared throughout the discussion.
Part of that reaction is understandable given the lengthy absence of a new Injustice game. Injustice 2 launched in 2017, and NetherRealm Studios has not officially announced Injustice 3 despite years of speculation surrounding a potential sequel.
DCKO does not prevent another Injustice game from being developed, but its announcement inevitably arrives under the shadow of a series that many DC fighting game fans have been waiting years to see return.
Drop Fake now has until its planned 2027 launch to demonstrate what separates DCKO from existing mobile fighters. Real-time PvP, a growing monthly roster, and less frequently featured characters such as Constantine give the game several ways to establish its own identity.
Whether its combat and monetisation systems can convince players will become clearer once hands-on opportunities begin.
