Rockstar Games has acknowledged an Instagram post from Barcelona footballer Lamine Yamal after the Spanish international used Grand Theft Auto 6 as its caption.
Yamal uploaded a collection of personal photographs on 31 July with the simple caption “GTA VI”. The verified Rockstar Games account subsequently liked the post, drawing attention from fans because the developer rarely interacts publicly with unrelated celebrity content.
The interaction is real, but its meaning remains unknown.
Rockstar did not comment beneath the photographs, repost the content or announce Yamal as an ambassador. The post also contains no visible sponsorship disclosure or direct reference to a commercial partnership. A single Instagram like is therefore not evidence that Yamal will appear in GTA 6 or participate in its advertising campaign.
The caption may simply reflect Yamal’s own interest in the series. This would not be his first public reference to Grand Theft Auto. Following Barcelona’s victory over Real Madrid in October 2024, Yamal included the familiar “Mission Passed” screen from Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas in an Instagram post celebrating the result.
Gaming is already part of Yamal’s public profile. In March 2025, the footballer became an official eFootball ambassador, joining Konami’s promotional line-up alongside Lionel Messi and Neymar Jr. The collaboration introduced a special Yamal player card and other themed content to the football game.
That existing partnership makes a future gaming collaboration plausible in a general sense, but it does not connect Yamal to Rockstar. Until either side says otherwise, Rockstar’s like should be treated as a social-media acknowledgement rather than confirmation of a GTA 6 campaign.
The timing nevertheless places the interaction during the most active stage of Rockstar’s launch preparations.
GTA 6 pre-orders opened on 25 June for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar has priced the Standard Edition at $79.99 and the Ultimate Edition at $99.99, while the game remains scheduled for 19 November 2026.
Some reports have claimed that GTA 6 generated more than $1 billion from pre-orders almost immediately. However, neither Rockstar Games nor parent company Take-Two Interactive has published a confirmed pre-order revenue total.
The widely circulated figure appears to have originated from predictions made before pre-orders opened rather than verified sales data released afterwards. It should not currently be presented as an established commercial milestone.
Speculation has also grown around a possible gameplay presentation in August. That claim remains unconfirmed as well.
The recent rumour came from an insider saying that they expected to see more of GTA 6 during August. It was expressed as a prediction rather than sourced information about a scheduled Rockstar presentation. Rockstar has not announced a third trailer or gameplay showcase at the time of writing.
What Rockstar has officially revealed is the game’s setting and central characters.
GTA 6 follows Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos after an attempted score pulls them into a criminal conspiracy across the state of Leonida. Rockstar describes Leonida as the largest and most immersive evolution of the Grand Theft Auto series, with Vice City forming one part of the wider setting.
Pre-order listings also provide a detailed look at the game’s available editions and bonuses. Both editions include vehicles, weapons, clothing, businesses and a free month of GTA+, while the Ultimate Edition adds further digital content. Pre-loading begins on 12 November.
Rockstar has also confirmed an unusual physical-release arrangement. Boxed copies will contain a download code rather than a game disc, meaning the packaging provides access to the same digital product sold through console storefronts.
That decision has produced criticism from players who expected a traditional disc release.
For now, the most defensible conclusion is also the simplest. Lamine Yamal mentioned GTA 6, and Rockstar Games noticed.
Whether that small interaction develops into something larger remains entirely unconfirmed.
