Key Highlights:
- The free Steam demo contains the full Prologue and part of Episode 1, including the first encounter with the Scarlet Church.
- Demo progress will not transfer to the finished game, and Saber warns that the build may contain unfinished performance issues or bugs.
- Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Revival launches on 8 October for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2.
Exactly three weeks before launch, Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Revival now has a free Steam demo that sends Aidan into the Labyrinth and introduces the Scarlet Church ahead of the full game’s 8 October release.
It is more than a short mechanics sampler. Steam confirms that players can complete the full Prologue, where Aidan follows his girlfriend Sunny into the ever-changing Labyrinth, before continuing into a portion of Episode 1. That section has Aidan attempting to escape the Scarlet Church after the cult takes possession of the Genesis Configuration. Combat, crafting and puzzle solving are introduced along the way, although the puzzle box’s broader powers, weapon upgrades and more complex puzzles are being held back for the complete game.
There is one important catch for anyone thinking of treating the demo as an early start. Progress does not carry across to the full release, and Saber describes this as a pre-release build that may still contain bugs, performance problems and other work-in-progress content. The demo itself requires 50 GB of storage, while the current full-game Steam listing asks for 80 GB and recommends an SSD.
The accompanying Scarlet Church Trailer shifts the focus towards Marlowe, the cult’s leader, and his attempts to use the Genesis Configuration to establish contact with the Cenobites and create his own twisted paradise. However, the Church is not the only human-derived threat. Saber has also detailed the Unworthy, former humans rejected by Leviathan who now view the puzzle box as a possible route to redemption.
Hellraiser: Revival was first revealed in July 2025, when the project also confirmed Doug Bradley’s return as Pinhead for the first time in almost two decades. The game follows Aidan as he attempts to rescue Sunny while using the supernatural abilities of the Genesis Configuration alongside conventional melee and ranged weapons.
There is an interesting development detail behind the project too. Steam and the console storefronts list Saber Interactive as the developer, but the game itself is being built by Mad Head Games, the Saber-owned studio behind Scars Above. Mad Head has publicly introduced its designers, writers, artists and programmers working on Hellraiser: Revival, with Game Director Emil Esov leading the project.
Saber currently estimates a complete playthrough at around 8 to 12 hours, says an internet connection will not be required, and has no announced plans for post-launch content at this stage. The final game is coming to PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and Steam.
For UK buyers, the Xbox Store currently prices the Standard Edition at £34.99 and the Deluxe Edition at £41.99. The Deluxe package adds the Nailer melee weapon, additional weapon cosmetics, a Leviathan charm, digital art book, soundtrack, Bleeding Hearts digital novella and an ’80s horror movie filter, while either pre-order includes the Labyrinth pistol and Martyr sawblade skins.
I think the save restriction is worth knowing before jumping in. This is a reasonably substantial preview of the opening rather than a five-minute showcase, but anyone buying the game three weeks later will still be starting Aidan’s journey again from the beginning.
As of 17 September, Saber has only announced the playable demo for Steam. No equivalent PS5, Xbox Series X|S or Nintendo Switch 2 demo has been confirmed ahead of launch.
