Key Highlights:

  • Silent Hill: Townfall patch 1.6.0 introduces Hard difficulty and rebalances all four difficulty settings.
  • The Weight can once again kill players instantly on Normal difficulty, reversing part of October’s earlier balancing update.
  • PC players receive NVIDIA DLSS Ray Reconstruction, alongside interface improvements and additional accessibility adjustments.

Konami released patch 1.6.0 for Silent Hill: Townfall on 28 October 2026, introducing a new Hard difficulty mode, rebalancing enemy behaviour and adding NVIDIA DLSS Ray Reconstruction support on PC.

The update is available on PlayStation 5, Steam and the Epic Games Store. According to Konami’s official patch notes, all existing difficulty settings have been adjusted to accommodate Hard mode, with changes to resource availability, enemy hearing sensitivity and damage.

However, developer Screen Burn Interactive has provided considerably more information about how the new difficulty system works.

In a separate development update published on 29 October, the studio explained that Townfall now features four distinct difficulty modes: Story, Normal, Hard and Nightmare.

Story remains the most forgiving option, with fewer enemies and reduced damage, allowing players to concentrate on exploration and the mystery surrounding St. Amelia. Normal provides a more balanced experience where combat remains viable, although resources and enemy encounters still require caution.

The new Hard mode shifts the emphasis towards stealth and resource management. Enemies have more health, inflict greater damage and respond more readily to sounds made by Simon Ordell. However, Hard avoids some of Nightmare’s more punishing mechanics, giving experienced players an intermediate challenge.

Nightmare remains the most demanding setting, featuring tougher, more perceptive enemies and harsher consequences for mistakes. Screen Burn does not recommend selecting it for a first playthrough, although players can freely change difficulty at any point during the game.

One particularly significant adjustment involves The Weight, the relentless creature whose behaviour was changed in the previous Silent Hill: Townfall patch 1.4.0.

That October 8 update removed The Weight’s instant-death grab attacks on Story and Normal difficulties, replacing them with heavy damage. It also addressed situations where the creature repeatedly searched the same locations or remained near objectives for extended periods.

Patch 1.6.0 restores The Weight’s ability to kill instantly on Normal difficulty, while retaining the reduced attack severity exclusively for Story Mode. Screen Burn says the decision follows refinements to the creature’s behaviour and the introduction of more clearly separated difficulty options.

I think this reversal is arguably more important for returning players than the addition of Hard mode itself. Anyone who previously switched to Normal to avoid The Weight’s instant kills can no longer rely on that protection, even though the studio says its hunting behaviour has been improved.

The changes also have implications for Townfall’s stealth mechanics. As explored in GLN’s earlier 18-minute gameplay coverage, Simon’s restricted first-person visibility makes environmental audio, enemy detection and careful movement particularly important. Increasing enemy hearing sensitivity at higher difficulties directly affects those established survival systems.

Meanwhile, PC players gain a new DLSS Ray Reconstruction option. NVIDIA’s technical explanation of Ray Reconstruction describes how the technology uses AI to replace traditional denoisers when reconstructing ray-traced lighting effects.

The technology is designed to improve the clarity and stability of ray-traced imagery, but Konami has not published performance benchmarks or before-and-after comparisons for Townfall. The new graphics option is exclusive to PC, with no corresponding PlayStation 5 feature announced.

Other improvements include displaying Simon’s position on the map regardless of difficulty, clearer difficulty descriptions, additional tutorials and revised puzzle hints. Valve status lighting has also been adjusted to improve accessibility for colourblind players.

Patch 1.6.0 follows Townfall’s September 24 release and several earlier updates addressing gameplay balance, enemy behaviour and technical problems. The latest patch notes list general fixes but do not identify further individual crash or performance issues as resolved.

Players can confirm the update is installed by checking the version number in the lower-right corner of the main menu. PC should display v1.6.155963, while PlayStation 5 should display v1.6.156035.
