Key Highlights:
- Silent Hill 2 Patch 1.07 improves performance, fog rendering and overall visual quality on PS5 and PS5 Pro.
- Players report that the update substantially reduces the PS5 Pro shimmering that affected the remake, particularly in Performance Mode.
- Konami has already acknowledged a new Performance Mode issue introduced by Patch 1.07 and is investigating a fix.
Konami and Bloober Team have released Silent Hill 2 Patch 1.07 for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro, but the long-awaited visual update has already created a new problem of its own.
Patch 1.07 targets both Performance and Quality modes. Konami says the update improves performance, fog visuals and overall image quality while addressing visual glitches, movement-related artefacts and shadow flickering.
The update is particularly significant for PS5 Pro owners because Silent Hill 2 has struggled with image reconstruction problems since Sony’s upgraded console launched in November 2024.
Players reported pronounced shimmering and flickering on foliage, reflections and other fine environmental detail. Bloober Team acknowledged those problems shortly after the PS5 Pro launch, while technical analysis linked much of the instability to the original implementation of PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution.
Sony subsequently introduced an upgraded version of PSSR in March 2026. The new reconstruction technology was designed to improve fine-detail clarity, image stability and motion consistency, and Sony specifically named Silent Hill 2 among the games receiving support.
Patch 1.07 appears to finally put that technology to meaningful use in Silent Hill 2.
Early player testing indicates that Performance Mode now produces a substantially cleaner image on PS5 Pro, with much of the distracting shimmer associated with the previous implementation reduced or removed. Community reports also describe better image stability while moving through fog-heavy areas.
I think that improvement matters more here than the fairly vague official phrase “overall visual quality”. Silent Hill 2 relies heavily on fog, wet surfaces, shadows and fine environmental detail, so reconstruction artefacts are unusually visible when they break down.
However, Patch 1.07 has introduced a different visual issue.
Players began reporting unusually dark shadows and crushed black levels in Performance Mode shortly after the update arrived. Screenshots and testing shared by the community show some dark areas losing visible detail compared with Quality Mode.
Konami has now confirmed that it is aware of problems affecting Performance Mode on both PS5 and PS5 Pro following Patch 1.07. The publisher says its team is investigating the issue and looking into possible solutions.
That acknowledgement changes the current state of the patch. Version 1.07 improves several long-standing visual problems, but Performance Mode cannot yet be described as fully fixed.
Quality Mode does not appear to exhibit the same crushed-black behaviour in the comparisons currently available, although it remains the 30fps-focused option. Community testing should still be treated as provisional until Konami explains exactly what went wrong.
The update’s official fix list is comparatively short:
| Patch 1.07 change | Status |
|---|---|
| Performance Mode performance | Improved |
| Quality Mode performance | Improved |
| Fog visuals | Improved |
| Visual glitches on assets | Fixed |
| Movement-related visual artefacts | Fixed |
| Shadow flickering | Fixed |
| Overall visual quality | Improved |
| New Performance Mode darkness issue | Under investigation |
Konami’s full Patch 1.07 notes are brief, with the update focused entirely on performance and visual fixes:
- Improved game performance in both Performance and Quality Modes
- Improved the visuals of the fog
- Fixed visual glitches on various assets
- Fixed certain visual artifacts that may occur while moving
- Improved overall visual quality
The patch is limited to the PlayStation versions. Konami’s announcement specifically covers PS5 and PS5 Pro, while the PC and Xbox Series X|S editions are not part of this update.
That platform distinction is notable because Silent Hill 2 is no longer a PlayStation console exclusive. The remake expanded to Xbox Series X|S in November 2025 after originally launching for PS5 and PC in October 2024.
GLN’s Silent Hill 2 Remake Xbox Series X review found the Xbox Performance Mode considerably more stable than the PS5 version experienced at launch, holding close to 60fps while retaining strong fog and lighting quality.
The PlayStation technical work has therefore continued well beyond the game’s original release.
The remake’s commercial momentum was already clear by January 2025, when Silent Hill 2 passed two million sales worldwide just over three months after launch. Konami later confirmed that its audience had grown further across PS5, PC and Xbox Series X|S.
The game has also grown substantially since those early PS5 Pro problems emerged. Konami confirmed in March that the remake had surpassed five million cumulative players worldwide as of January 31, 2026, across PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. That figure includes physical and digital sales, store downloads and subscription-service access.
Patch 1.07 should make Silent Hill 2 look noticeably cleaner on PS5 Pro, particularly for players who were waiting for improved image reconstruction before returning to the remake.
For Performance Mode users, however, the story is not finished yet. Konami has already confirmed that another solution is being investigated after the August update traded some of the game’s old reconstruction problems for a newly introduced darkness issue.
