Konami announced that Pro Evolution Soccer 2013 would receive Patch 1.03 on 20 December 2012, bringing a series of gameplay and multiplayer improvements to PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.
One of the biggest changes concerned PES 2013’s existing 2v2 multiplayer. The mode had not met player expectations, prompting Konami to rework several of its core elements following community feedback.
PES team leader Jon Murphy described the changes as a “full extension” of 2v2, with improved player switching intended to make multiplayer matches more intuitive and closer to the single-player experience.
Patch 1.03 was also designed to address the overall balance of the game. Konami announced improvements to player movement, additional goal celebrations and fixes affecting Master League Online and other online modes.
The update subsequently launched as planned on 20 December 2012. Its final changes included adjustments to player form and movement, while multiplayer Free Matches gained the ability to switch cursors between multiple players when Cursor Switching was enabled.
Konami also corrected a Master League Online matchmaking issue that could occur after playing a 2v2 ranking match. Another fix addressed Community matches where COM-controlled players could sometimes not be substituted.
PES 2013 later received Patch 1.04, continuing Konami’s post-launch updates with further fixes and gameplay adjustments.
Patch 1.03 therefore became more than a minor update for PES 2013. Its changes directly addressed several requests from the game’s community, with the revised 2v2 experience forming the centrepiece of the December update.
