Sega has announced Total War: Shogun 2 Gold Edition, a PC compilation containing the original strategy game and its two major campaign expansions.
The North American edition will include Total War: Shogun 2, Rise of the Samurai and Fall of the Samurai. Sega will release this version on 5 March 2013.
The European and Australian edition will contain the same three campaigns alongside almost every previously released DLC pack. The Blood Pack is the only announced omission.
Total War: Shogun 2 follows rival clans competing to unify feudal Japan during the Sengoku period. Rise of the Samurai moves the campaign back approximately 400 years to the Genpei War, when the Taira, Minamoto and Fujiwara families fought for control of Japan.
Fall of the Samurai moves the setting forward to the 19th-century Boshin War. The standalone expansion introduces modern firearms, artillery, railways and Western naval powers as Imperial and Shogunate factions fight over Japan’s future.
The European and Australian Gold Edition will also use a black-and-gold folding case inspired by Japanese lacquerware. Sega will release that version on 8 March 2013.
The Gold Edition therefore offers two different packages depending on region. North American buyers receive the three principal campaigns, while European and Australian buyers receive those campaigns plus nearly all of the additional clan and unit content.
Total War: Shogun 2 Gold Edition launched on the announced dates. Creative Assembly’s next major historical entry was Total War: Rome II, which Sega later scheduled for September 2013.
